My 3 Cents on Loss to Denver

1. There was one drive deep in our end zone, 2nd half.... we run 3 straight times. WTF, the run game had been mostly inept all game long. A wasted possession.

2. The fourth and 1 (or 2) Ben throws deep..... things like this happened all season. Get the first down, then go deep... geez, Miller was wide the hell open. Probably would have picked up 15-20 yards.

3. I don't blame Fitz Toussaint or any player or coach. This loss was a microcosm of our season.
So long as the Patriots DON'T win, I can be happy with any of the other 3 teams winning.
 
I agree with you here. Three straight runs is living in your fears. We should have tired some short passes here.

Point #2 I was saying the same thing. Get the first down. No, they go for broke when they didn't have to.

Fitz didn't lose this game but some questionable calls did coupled with CB's playing 10 yards off the receivers.
 
Ben has been doing this all season. Low percentage throws when a first down is all that is needed.

They had a few times this year when it worked here and there but it just isn't smart football. Especially when you need to
protect your defense and keep them off the field.

Ben has to be willing and patient to get better at that part of his game. With league rules favoring the offense we have the weapons to be the best offense in the nfl, but it takes superior QB play to make it all work.

New England has the formula and its not rocket science. Quick shifty receivers and a accurate patient QB who is content to just kill you with a thousand cuts. Yards after catch, dink and dunk you until the defense makes a.mistake by missed tackle or crashing down on the short routes and then a tight end or WR slips past then they hit you. You have to use the rules to your advantage. You can't touch these receivers now.

I thought when Haley arrived we were heading in that direction but this year it seemed like the deep ball was more of a constant.

Especially when we all knew we needed to protect the defense. Just because you can do it or had luck with it you have to see the bigger picture. Nothing wears or demoralize s a defense more than long chain moving drives. Then the deep stuff will be there.

Just my opinion but all and all it was a entertaining year

#2 Miller was wide open but I like the call. Ball hit Wheaton right in the top chest/shoulder. AB makes that catch all day.
 
I also would have tried the 51-52 yard kick instead of punting later in the game. Boz has been great all season. He had a lot of leg on his kickoffs and the wind had died down a bit. 52 yards in mile high is like an easy 45 yarder in most stadiums. Take the shot there.

Yep, said it at the time, that was a total give up. Didn't understand that at all. And I don't know if that 3rd down was a call from Haley or check from Ben. But it made no sense.
 
I get not going for the FG in windy conditions but with Boz I would have gone for it anyway. I don't live in my fears.
 
I didn't mind the throw on 4th and 1. Ben saw the match up and Wheaton get behind Talib. If it was AB, that pass is more than likely caught. Hell, if Wheaton catches it, it's a brilliant play. Oh well, moving on.
 
Yeah, I think they got a bit too conservative in the second half. That run, run, run, punt sequence was very questionable, given the success the Steelers were having breaking the Broncos secondary for big yardage.

Also, given how reliable Boswell has been this season, passing up the long, but very makeable FG, while trusting a punter, who had been punting like sh1t all game to land the ball inside the 10 yard was as dumb as it was overly conservative.

I get the sense they were playing to not lose most of the second half, which gave them a slim a margin of error that disappeared upon Troussaint's fumble.
 
yep. tough catch, but catch-able. Miller was coming open but Ben likes the money shots.

The talking heads said 2 or 3 times that Talib knocked it out. I hate talking heads. They were wrong. Talib's hand never touched the ball. That ball hit Wheaton square in the chest and just bounced off.

Another thing...announcers talked all day about Denver WR dropped passes. We had numerous critical jobs that hurt us.
 
I felt as though Wheaton gave up a bit on the first big play as well. It want about 5 yards long and I would have like to see him lay out for that one. It would have set the tone in a big way. Maybe he just isn't that fast but I simply felt he wasn't going all out for the ball. It could be Ben surprised him with the throw.

At any rate, the TD pass that bounced off his chest and Martavis being *** raped in the endzone and getting no call for it were pretty huge. That's pretty funny. The Steeler's Gay get's called for touching a Bronco's receiver but Martavis is openly raped in the end-zone and no flag.
 
The ball hit Wheaton right in the hands/chest, that should be six, no point saying Ben should've thrown to heath, he hit Wheaton perfectly should be six, plus Ben was already in the middle of this throw when Heath was breaking open and I think there was some pressure coming.

Absolutely he gave up, I was yelling at the TV, he just quit and didn't even try for the ball, he does that quite often.

Especially when going against a D that tight and when on your 4th string RB. One could argue, it was being down to the 4th string QB that directly lost this game; the fumble was the biggest difference in the game. We were about to put a nail in their coffin.

Yes the call against gay gave them a first down and was ridiculous.
 
It is easy to pick out our errors, but the Broncos had their fair share as well, including a TON of dropped passes. Bad plays and questionable decisions go both ways.

The Steelers special teams pretty much handed the Broncos their first 6 points, no doubt.

I think that the windy conditions played a bigger role in portions of the game than people want to recognize. I noticed that ( and so did the announcers ) throwing into the wind ( our 2nd & 4th qtrs ) was tough on the receivers because the ball was whiffling and hard to track. I think that it also had some effect on our punting and Wheaton's handling of punts.

Not to mention some of the pass drops could possibly be traced back to a curve ball effect from the 21 mph gusts. Both teams had to play under the same conditions so it was what it was but some people adapt a little better to that stuff than others...jus sayin.

The Broncos out played us when it mattered. The Steelers hung in there 90% of the game. The fumble just took the wind out of our sails

I'd argue that the first 3.5 quarters also mattered.
