I think this move needs to be explored and quite possibly made. Our army ranger is just too suspect to play Left Tackle thanks to average feet. Speed rushers beat him too often. This is not to say he can't make a very good right tackle or become a bit better at left tackle. At this point in time, I think it's best to move Gilbert to Left Tackle now. Gilbert having a pro bowl type of year in my opinion, and should be up to the task.

man I thought he did fairly well today

Villaneuva played the whole game against Aldon Smith their best pass rusher and did an amazing job at that! He will be fine at LT! No changes should be made! He's already better than Beachum

He gave up the sack that got Ben hurt, and had some QB pressures against.

The sack can't be totally blamed on him. Ben scrambled to the outside could of scrambled inside. Definitely not all on the ranger

Say what???? He's doing a fine job given he's relatively new to the position but I think that is a stretch. I think Beachum is severely under rated by some around here.

Then what, move Gilbert to LT? I think that was tried in the past without success.

the play Ben got hurt on.....it was a freak injury......like Pouncyesque type of injury where his leg just got caught in a awkward position.

Villy Is playing fine at LT.....he'll get better with experience. Aldon Smith is no slouch either.......and he held his own.

Coach did you see the game?

I always thought the majority viewed Beachum as solid....

I love how Aldon ******* Smith was playing today.

I guess if Bryant had merely been arrested repeatedly, fled an arrest, and was involved in a hit-and-run, then the shield does not give a **** and all is good.

Gilbert is great at RT is way too slow out of his stance to play LT. Gilbert is also a lazy player who takes a lot of plays off and would get Ben killed every week against the premium speed pass rushers a LT faces.

You do realize it was Gilbert that gave up the sack Ben was hurt on don't you ? Gilbert is great at RT is way too slow out of his stance to play LT.

What? No, it was definitely Villanueva.

Regardless, Gilbert is an adequate RT and I'd rather let Villanueva settle in at LT and just worry about playing that one position. At the moment he is adequate but I think his performance will rise to an above the line level since he is the next man up and his above the neck game is better than popcorn.

Bottom line Ranger is our LT for 2015 but we must draft a LT early or sign a quality one in F/A. I think this guy is doing ok and I'm pulling for him but he's not a starter and its showing. he lacks the foot speed and technique and these speed guys can fly right around him. We need to solidify that position in 2016.

They already tried Gilbert at left tackle. They subsequently changed him out and put Adams there, and he was a colossal failure. Nobody to put there in his place.

Agree, I think that Villanueva might be able to become a bona fide starter but even with his injury Beachum may command more FA money than the Steelers can pay under the cap. They should look for a LT early in the draft, preferably named Jones.

Ben was at fault on that sack, he moved right into it, he should moved up in the pocket. V had his man turned and was taking him up field away from the center of the pocket. Sometimes **** happens, it was one play.

when is Adams expected to be ready? He can come in as a TE, line up next to Villanueva or Gilbert and help on the line.

Hopefully in time for spring OTA's for another team. He's a worse waste of space than Dri and Jarvis.

Thankfully we have Munchak's opinion to rely on.

Villanueva is our LT. He's also our LT of the future. His size is beyond what you want out of a LT. He's a mountain, and moves well for his size. His length envelopes rushers. Mark my words, he's our starting LT moving forward.

He's an undrafted player, playing a position he's just learned the past 2 years, and he's holding his own. When he gets it down, no one is going to get past him.

ARMY STRONG!

He can get better. I said he could. I'm talking about right now. Right now I just see him beating beaten by speed rushers a bit too often. 3 games started 3.5 sacks were given up and too many QB pressures are what I see. If you extrapolate these numbers for a full season, that pretty much equates to the worst starting pass protector at left tackle. I also see him looking very good at times. The upside is there. And he might be better off at Right Tackle.

The season rides on the OL protecting Ben from injuries.
