Mike Tomlin not impressed with rookie class

Well if he said they were doing great it would of just be him talking them up. As a lot on here would say "what do you expect him to say?". Now for some reason Tomlin has come out and told the "truth". Whether it is because he thinks his job is on the line or this draft class just sucks ......well thank goodness we have posters on here that know when Tomlin finally decided to speak truthfully for once. Thanks guys.

So are you saying the other 31 head coaches were not impressed so far by any of their rookies?

Ya know, when I was in elementary school - a program was started and I think you missed EVERY class - READING IS FUNDAMENTAL aka "RIF"...
The NFL is entrenched in its grain-of-salt period right nowthe time when every team loves its draft picks and thinks that it has struck gold...
Doesn't hurt to march to your own drum sometimes.
So let me get this straight. I want to make sure I understand the rules. If Tomlin,Colbert, a Coordinator or a Position Coach offer praise for a player, it's "coach speak". If however, they offer criticism or decline the opportunity to praise a player, that's "as good as gospel and shooting from the hip." Correct?
You do realize that you've now opened the proverbial "can of worms"???
LOL, are you asking me to post more stats?
Subterfuge? Mmmm, ok...

Great response Tomlin!!! No need to hype anyone up at this point. Someone called it "football in shorts"......I rather wait until they start hitting, then we'll see what we really have.

What is this new NFL you talk about, hitting and such......... This current NFL, doesn't really hit anymore.

I hear what yoiur saying, hitting / pads / speed / football moves.... All need to be seen before we know anything.!!!!

The guy on the far right is the infamous Bud "Durpee". Seriously though, who is this guy? We only had 8 picks and there are 9 people in the pic. Plus dude looks a little old and flabby (are those "man ****" and a pot belly) to be an NFL rookie. Must be one of the coaches or something.

Looks like he is standing at attention, military style.

The only things you learn about rookies from OTAs are which players test results carry over to the field as you watch them run with NFL athletes instead of college athletes. And you learn which players are dummies.

You can usually tell in shorts if a guy has the athletic ability to play. You can also get a glimpse of coachability if a guy does something wrong, then has to be corrected multiple times on the same thing.

If you did a good job of drafting then you should not have drafted any dummies or any guys who lack the basic athleticism. OTAs for good teams should be without surprises. OTAs for bad teams are like opening up a mystery box.

It is that easy then...

I think one of the key things along those lines was talked about during the mini camp or OTA interviews with one of the steelers staff. I can't remember his name but he said guys don't make the team then but they can be cut from the team. He mentioned a couple of things that would do it, not being in good condition, and not learning the system and responsibilities of the position. Some guys show up and don't bother to learn the things they should and they get released right away. In some cases a guy comes in and they will have a file on him for future if they get hit by injuries.

In a lot of ways it can be very productive and allow the team to head to training camp with the best of what they were able to find through the draft and free agency.
