Mike Mitchell Is Gone For Good?

Yet they keep McCullers.

That story at the end acts as IF STEELERS fans are going to miss him............hell he probably even thinks we'll be sorry for this move....... I most certainly don't know the guy on a person al level but I've seen his play / demeanor and even I can honestly say,.... Bye Bye. Mike MItchell I thank you for all the good play within your past as a STEELERS player but the crap / bad / self- heroics / I'm glad will be gone and I for one am glad for that. GET on with your life's work.

Salute the nation

Early on he was pretty good but he was a penalty machine. After he dialed back the penalties he became average at best.

that plus lingering injuries slowed him down and he depended much more on speed than awareness.

Mitchell was one year removed from being a street free agent and we gave him 25M(and he earned 20M). Clearly it was poor evaluation on our part, as he was never worth more than a bit above veteran's minimum. Too many cheap shots, too much talk and too many steps slow over the past 4 years.

He didn't work out. We got our coveted Safety 4 years ago. Was banged up but made some plays his first year. By year 2 he was making a good amount of plays. In year 3 he made zero plays. I don't pay him a dime to make zero plays coming off the bench, since he made zero plays as a freaking starter.

* he did recover 1 fumble late in the season, so he did make one play. I must be fair...

A guy who loved playing football and loved playing for the Steelers? Yes I'll miss that. I won't miss the lack of plays he made recently, sure, but he bled black and gold and for that I will always appreciate him

I know I am in the minority, but I met Mitchell at two training camps. He was all class and respectful to fans young and old. Watch and listen to all his interviews from the media. The guy knows the game and understands when to point out something that is bad for the game. He put forth everything he had, playing injured the last couple years. As always father time wins when skills diminish, and the game is a business. He knew that, even stated it to Dulac or Bouchette. Sure he made bone headed plays, but who hasn't? Won't say I will miss some of his mistakes, but I will miss the intensity.

Mitchell is a class dude. Tough spot to be in following having Troy Polamalu back there. Our secondary and our defense as a whole changed. We had an absolutely terrible secondary before the 2017 season. Mitchell being the safety net is going to get picked on. They also changed the game on these guys forcing them to re-learn how to tackle and hit and that's not easy when you've spent your entire adult life doing the same technique.

We move on and its all good. No hard feelings or nothing. Its the business side of football now and we move on to 2018 and the draft.

I agree, that he was good for the locker room, and i have no problem with him at all as a person. I also agree he was a classy guy and a good role model for younger players.

I only had a problem with his inability to make an impact in any game he played in 2017. He made an impact in previous years, just none in 17. The best game we got out of that position was the game Wilcox started early in the year.

I think he was decent at first, but the past couple of years, he was nowhere near average. He sucked and was a liability.

I hope to see him back on the field vs. the Steelers. He's an easy burn, and owes us a few Personal Fouls flag's.

I agree with most of this. I just cannot for the life of me figure out why he would call out Jacksonville. I said very early on that Jacksonville was a very tough out. I felt they were top two physical teams. I was really hoping they would catch NE instead of the Steelers in the Divisional. I think the James play kept that from happening and things might have been very different if it had went that way.

It’s been talked about numerous times about Mitchell’s purported calling out outside JAX locker room, which was a poor decision. But what haven’t been mentioned was those JAX DBs, particularly Ramsey was shooting off his pie hole all week before the 2nd game. He’s had a big mouth throughout college, which is fine but rookies need to shut up.

Mitchell's game was all about trying to lay someone out with the big hit. Once that was taken away from him by enforcing the newer sissy rules, his game was over. Not really his fault, he started during an era when that is the way you played. When you are not a great player you have to do something to make up for it.

So Mitchell was neutered

That was fair to say about Ryan Clark, but not Mitchell. Mitchell was a middling player for the Raiders to start his career from 2009-2012. In 2013 he had one good season with the Panthers when they had an amazing front 7 and then we paid him. Defense was being neutered in '09/'10 when he was just coming into the league and he sucked.

I thought Mitchell was ok. Not a Clark or Polamalu by any means, he was ok. He often played hurt and shown tenacity. He did have a nack for taking bad angles.

Mitchell was on twitter talking **** about the stock market tanking and how it’s Trumps fault (mind you he stated it was Obama who made it rise) so I asked him if he was happy that the market was tanking. Must have thought about it so he replied, no.
