Mell has us going CB round 1

Woodson was a no brainer.

Not sure any CB in this draft will contribute heavily THIS year....

I think the pundits have said CB the last 4 years in a row (not that they were wrong about need). I'm hoping Gholson and Grant might help next year, but not holding my breath.

I do like Fuller at CB. Isn't going to be the next woodson but he has a very high floor imo. Solid 8-10 year NFL starter you plug in and does his job.

I'm sure you are right, that is why the need to sign Gay for sure, but Boykin is definately a need. Then he needs to see the field of play. NOT sure of the anamosity either side has towards each other, but he knows our system and I think he would be the biggest impact of this coming season. OUR windo is short, so developmental players will fall beyond thaT window of contribution.

Unless they feel Jesse James is a big contributor, TE would probably have the most impact on keeping them where they were last year. However, I still really think they need a do over on Uncle Jarvis or a corner back.

If the last 15 years so have told us anything, they won't go CB. Unless they change their system, it takes 3 years plus to start getting comfortable in the back end. Even a vet like Mitchell took two years to start to figure it out. Unless a Rod Woodson is on the board (and they took him because he was a phenomenal athlete - not necessarily a need), I can't see them taking CB's high.

There's probably a limited amount of CBs we will have a first round grade on and all of them will be gone by our pick. It's not like they haven't tried to go CB early before either. See recent news of trade up attempts last year and probably all the way back to Revis.

I know Hunter is getting the looks from draftniks, but I am liking Austin Hooper in 2.

I think at 25 there will be better D-line value sitting there, it isn't the fans sexy pick. But if the club goes BPA like I expect them to, I am thinking one of them is sitting there round 1.

I agree, I'd rather they go with a nonflashy big man in the middle of the line that will stuff the run than reach for a guy like Apple. I still don't want a TE in the first round, even without Heath. Get a decent one in FA. I think James will do just fine as a starter.

Hmmmmm....

Hmmmm... x2

Ahhhh, my sentiments exactly. We'll never know "exactly" who the coaches and FO are targeting - ie. Jarvis, Shazier - picks that had us scratching our heads; but, we know the weaknesses even with the loss of Heath - I think that "stopping the run" and "building a better defense" is the focus for the this year's draft.

I personally want a monster in the middle to team up w/ Heyward and Tuitt.

Best player available at 25 and it won't be a CB. If the best player is a defensive lineman then pull the trigger. If its the top rated TE then pull the trigger. Both are needs. I try and re-sign both Gay and Boykin, acquire a solid F/A CB and Safety. Cut Cortez and Suisham unless you can trade Suisham. I hand out an extension to DE Castro and possibly Bell. something has to be done with Timmons. Either a new contract or cut ties and play Vince Williams. lots of cap space could be freed up here.

If the last 15 years so since Mel Kipper has had any relevance to have told us anything, they won't go CB. This is what I thought YOU had said..........

Fuller will be about as good starter as McFadden was in his early years. No one is goi g to dish big money William gay a average sized average speed CB who gets by on his intangles and high iq. Only the Titans who need 3-4 zone CB help badly may try a bidding war mainly bc lebeau who develops to much emotional attachments to his players may push Tennessee to. Fuller Apple will be not spectacular but reliable corners for the zone blitz scheme. Hargreaves has the talent. To be a special starter but the cost to move up will be to much I rather if I am going to much up that much get dt/de Robinson who could in a snap allow us to run every possibly d formation base from 3-4 to the 46.

None of our CB's are that great that we shouldn't allow a rookie 1st rounder to get in the lineup and take his lumps. Sure, a rookie will make mistakes but the upside is much greater by allowing them to play with the crap we have been playing with. I would have no problem if we took Apple or even Fuller in round 1.

I was thinking earlier today, what if we cut ties with Timmons and brought in Lauranitis? Don't get me wrong, I like Timmons, but he is grossly overpaid. And if we can get Lauranitis for cheaper, we can use that money (along with the savings from Heath, Cortez, Suisham, etc) to improve our defensive backfield.

not the Steeler way

they will extend Timmons....

.

I do not see Hunter Henry as a round one talent. If we want another TE, we need to look later in this draft. We need to look at defense in round one.

.

If Harrison comes back, they will not be drafting a OLB early in draft. They need DB's, a TE and back-up OL & DL more.

I could see Boykin moving outside now that he knows the system better and came on strong late in the season. More likely than a rookie starting anyways.
