McFarland < > Rainey

Since Conner is a free agent and it’s only a matter of time until he’s hurt again, McFarland needs to pan out. That is unless you think Snell is starting material.

That play where Mcfarland didn’t know what to do cost him. The Steelers are not using him correctly either.

Disappointing.

They aren't using him correctly? Good to know.

I think Snell showed us he can rush for 100 yards in a game earlier this year. He needs to wrap up the football better, but besides that Snell could be a starter for us. The good thing about RBs is that we can draft one to replace what we have and not blink. We are fortunate to have a good OL and with Ben back teams that stack the LOS will pay dearly with our receiver corps.

As mentioned..

Smallwood is available on the practice squad...

Better option with same skill sets and experienced NFL player..

Coach T's affinity with Maryland players should cease immediately..

McFarland < > Rainey

You can see flashes on McFarland but not DJ? I can personally see flashes in both.

Want to know the difference between McFarland and Rainey? About 20 lbs...

DJ isn’t a rookie. On this team right now he’s no better than the 3rd best option. More like no better than the 4th best option. Sorry Cope he’s not breaking out ant time soon. Claypool is the star in the making. Ju ju is playing for his next contact.Washington has been solid. Ebron has been solid. McCloud when used has been electric. Johnson has been mistake prone and Hurt.

McFarland is a rookie. Give him the ball a bit more often and we’ll see some 10 plus yards runs. That’s what I think.

This board was all over Fitz for not making plays, remember? Your correct he can impress.

The reaction to Bush’s injury and trying to trade for a linebacker is another over reaction.

Just give it some time. The moment Conner gets hurt or McFarland has an impressive run the same people on his case will jump on the bandwagon.

I agree give it time but McFarland isn’t ready yet aside from a play or two a game for now. He will be good I think, with time. You seem to be to eager to rush him along and that can be detrimental to his growth. You need to give him time as well. I am on the fence with what to do about Bush. Ask me again after this week. As far as Fitz I really did not see much panic on this board. Yes on some dumb Facebook pages.

Mcfarland looked lost out there, that doesn't mean he doesn't have what it takes. Odds are against him, but as far as starters go Benny Snail is not a starting caliber NFL RB either. I don't think there is a True NFL starter on this roster to be honest. Conner has looked great so far this season, but I've seen too much bad tape/ underwhelming performances to ever truly trust a guy like that.

Meh. He has made a couple plays in the first games. There was a thread last week about building a package of the offense around him, but he totally ****** up that draw call last week. Small sample to go either way about this guy. Personally, I would be running Conner and Snell, but I would be looking at JaySam on third down. I like a third down back strictly devoted to that package. You can get your lead back a breather on third and take him out of full series less often. I'm finding it hard to consider a role for Snell other than a break for Conner. I like Conner better in short yardage and goal line. He has a better feel, probably not anymore power. Maybe less, but he has better vision and movement.

sounds like some of you were forced to wear the dunce hat and sit in the corner of the room on the third day of pre-school because you couldn't remember your ABCs..... I guess you're all going to be a bunch of illiterates for the rest of your lives...... lol

give the McFarland kid a chance ...........afterall we should all know by now ............It Was Coach Tomlin's Fault .....:playful::playful:

Fixed that for ya...

What?!?!?!

What?!?!?!

I took 'not using him correctly" to imply that they should overhaul the offense for McFarland. (That was said tongue in cheek, but someone will take it seriously). But, in essence, in order to use him correctly, you would have to use him differently than you do the other backs. Which would tip the Defense as to what was coming whenever he was in the game. Seems to me McFarland would be better off showing that he can handle the same load as everybody else. Then you can develop some plays that play to his particular strengths and have a possibility of catching the Defense off guard.

McFarland has a lot of potential. He did come from a program where the offensive line wasn’t spectacular. Yet, he was able to produce. A lot of his runs were to the outside and not much between the tackles. Of course, he did well at that level. I think this kid will be just fine.

Seems to me that Steelworth is very much on record as saying the kid is not a bust already. As far as what McFarland is lacking, it's not playing time. It's, at least in part, play awareness. The kid will get his time to prove he belongs. Conner did. Snell did. Even Samuels did. But, unless absolutely forced to, the coaches aren't going to rush him into significant playing time until he's ready. And, that's a good thing.

Spot on, Buckeye. And I didn't even see your bolded til now that basically mimicked my point, but it was still good to get in for posterity/emphasis. I expect McFarland to break a big one off shortly that's gonna make us all turn our heads. Like you said, he just needs to get his play awareness down.
