He ain’t showing much. Speed I don’t think he’s that fast.

Considering he totally missed his assignment on a run play, I don't think he's picked up the offense. Being unsure about what you're supposed to do can and will limit your playing speed.

Looking at the draft thread I think I called a few right on. So far McFarland is only on the team because of his draft status. I remember being pissed because I wanted James Robinson and said McFarland wasn’t any better than Leake his teammate who went undrafted. Claypool is a stud and I figured he would just not so quickly.

Wait a minute!!! I thought McFarland was the starter that Coach Tomlin was stupidly sitting behind Conner and Snell??? At least that's what Coach told us...

Bonus points to you for remembering anything that cooch spewed forth.

Jesus guys a few games in to his nfl career. Give the kid a chance.

Troy was a bust at this stage of his career going off this logic.

I don't think there's anyone who doesn't want the kid to succeed. All I'm saying is that he has to remember the plays. Hell, that little brain fart on Sunday could have got Ben hurt.

As I said a few weeks ago when Coach and some others were lamenting about playing time. The kid isn't quite ready for anywhere close to a full load, and that was evident yesterday. I can be patient, get him a few snaps here and there and let him develop. He just isn't ready yet in my opinion. For whatever that's worth. lol

Damn I hate agreeing with Cooch but this is serious overreaction. Rookie RB's have struggled league wide unlike WRs so far this year. Why you ask? Simple they did not have the time in preseason to become competent in things like blitz pickup that is crucial for the position and that WRs don't have to worry about. He has actually impressed me on some runs but he is still far from comfortable YET. Give the kid some time, holy hell.

I'm patient and willing to give the kid more time. I think SteelInLebanon hit it on the head (great post). I'm not saying McCloud is all world beater but I do think he has potential and a place on this team.

Remember when 4 preseason games in Last year Benny Snell was The biggest Draft flub ever?
This guy didn’t even get those 4 preseason games...
He probably will be fine... he is the third or fourth rb on the depth chart... frankly i really don’t care what he looks like right this second...

sounds like some of you were forced to wear the dunce hat and sit in the corner of the room on the third day of pre-school because you couldn't remember your ABCs..... I guess you're all going to be a bunch of illiterates for the rest of your lives...... lol

give the McFarland kid a chance ...........afterall we should all know by now ............It Was BEN's Fault .....:playful::playful:

It isn't just remembering 2 back to the 6 hole - it is reading the defense in real time and picking up what the other team is doing. Defenses disguise that **** - show one thing then do another. Kid had no OTA's, No real training camp, no preseason and plays a position where a lot of young guys struggle to pick up the nuances of NFL offense and NFL defense. Kid has some speed. Maybe he can make in the NFL, but deciding what he might be in year two vs. what he is now is a bit shortsighted. that said, this probably kinda explains why his snap count is limited. The team is teaching him the NFL version of the game.

Always thought you had your head in the McCLOUDS.........DRINK ..:plane:

It isn't so much that people think this kid's a bust already (at least I don't), it's just that Cooch kept harping on and harping on why they weren't giving him playing time, and we see now why that's very obvious.

So in closing, Cooch was wrong again.

This is cooch's love child. He wants this kid getting 10 touches a game....and yet, the kid doesn't even remember a play call.

Since Conner is a free agent and it’s only a matter of time until he’s hurt again, McFarland needs to pan out. That is unless you think Snell is starting material.

That play where Mcfarland didn’t know what to do cost him. The Steelers are not using him correctly either.

Disappointing.

After 5 games and how many carries? We saw the flashes. So the talent is there. When the field is spread, McFarland will shine. Or if he gets the type of blocking Conner gets.

Conner is playing better, but you should know he’s injury prone and sometimes fumble prone. To me it’s a question of when not if.

But your on record he’s a bust already. Okay, got it.

This board was all over Fitz for not making plays, remember? Your correct he can impress.

The reaction to Bush’s injury and trying to trade for a linebacker is another over reaction.

Just give it some time. The moment Conner gets hurt or McFarland has an impressive run the same people on his case will jump on the bandwagon.

Has he even had 10 carries yet? Let's slow down a little.

You can see flashes on McFarland but not DJ? I can personally see flashes in both.

Want to know the difference between McFarland and Rainey? About 20 lbs...

Seems to me that Steelworth is very much on record as saying the kid is not a bust already. As far as what McFarland is lacking, it's not playing time. It's, at least in part, play awareness. The kid will get his time to prove he belongs. Conner did. Snell did. Even Samuels did. But, unless absolutely forced to, the coaches aren't going to rush him into significant playing time until he's ready. And, that's a good thing.
