The Steelers are bringing back nose tackle Daniel McCullers on a one-year contract. McCullers, a sixth-round draft pick in 2014, played in 42 games, including two starts, during his first four seasons with the Steelers. Expectations were high for McCullers given his huge size and athletic ability, but he hasn’t put it together. He only […]

I think the guy has heart and he's obviously a team-player to get shuffled around as a starter/backup and never a peep. As SteelerSask said in another thread, "a guy who gives his best and isn't good enough. I can live with that."

But does he?

One could debate he has impressive physical skills but because he has little fire, he doesn't maximize them.

I don't mind the signing, camp body that will fight for a spot with a rookie. I'm betting we get the Alabama tackle in the 5th if he's there

THIS..

I'm all for giving it your all,.....but still lose BUT I'm NOT for 1/2 assing it and Big Dan has that "I get bye" feel to him. I realize his role but also realize that DEBO had a role too and we sure could have used that role more than DAN's. Camp Body and application of one self.....may just get him to turn the corner............

He only played 13 defensive snaps last season while being inactive for 11 games

How much was the deal for? If we draft a DT/NT, big Dan could be cut.

I've seen Dan make tackles 20 yards downfield. He's not bad because he doesn't try.

thing is, I don't remember seeing him look terrible. I did see him push some pockects up the middle.. But most of what I saw was pre season or something,, because he is usually a scratchx

He signed on the vet minimum. Camp body and “just in case” insurance. Only reason he’s back is because Dunbar is now here. He was in Coach Mitch’s dog house the past two years because of his “effort”, or lack there of.

I guess I would have to defer to the coach's judgement, but that's really not how I ever felt about him. Some people just don't have that "fire" in their belly to go with their size. My younger brother was like that. In 8th grade he was 6'0 310 and he sucked. I could never get him to be slightly aggressive and he'd get pushed around and played on the "B" team.

Of his 13 defensive snaps.........how many downfield 20yards "tackles" did he make????

He may very well get cut in camp. And he may very well be as bad as some of you say he is. But there is also a slight hope he may perform better under a new line coach - and for those of you that do not know, he did rather well against the run in 2016 - http://www.Invalid Link - Check SN ...-daniel-mccullers-finished-season-strong-run/ - and that is an area where the Steelers, while not using him last year, sucked donkey balls.

With as ****** as our run defense was last year, I don't really think our current talent evaluators at the coaching level are to be trusted. ******* Jags hung 45 on us, and they basically just ran it down our throats, I'd think even if big Dan gets out there and just lays on the field and makes the guys run around him it would at least slow them down.

are we talking about Frazier in the fifth, has the size of a true NT, Lampkin of the Sooners is another guy I would like at, but I think the answer is Settle of V tech has the girth and strength of a combination of Hampton/Stroud, not elite as hampton but could be as good in the middle as marcus stroud was for the jags.
