I hear local sports guys saying we need an ILB early in the draft. Why? I know we could use depth, but with the way the NFL is we don't need two ILBs on the field much anymore. Shazier should never leave the field, he's the only ILB that should see the field on passing downs, Williams has to come off. Use Davis as a db/LB on passing downs. Staying with 4LBs on the field in passing situations have killed us the past couple seasons.

doesn't seem to make sense...now OLB and CB, definitely early needs....and mid round and late round if available

I think if Raekwon the ILB from Ohio State is there in rd 3, we look at him. Maybe even Azalone the ILB from Florida...but def not before rd 3.

All I'm hearing is Lawson and Humphrey. I'm cool with that though.

I could see a MLB in first 3 rounds. Shazier gets hurt pretty frequently and we don't have much behind him at all. wouldn't surprise me a bit if we inside/outside LB in first 2 rounds and follow with RB/DB with our 3rd rounders. This draft could literally go any direction other than OL heavy.

The local sports guy is lost and confused. We do NOT need to draft an ILB early.

We have Williams. We could use a nickel LB, or a 3 down ILB.

I like Lee in rounds 4-5.

There is a more than adequate ILB sitting out there waiting to be signed by someone.

I know our base D is a 3-4, but IMO the day of two ILBs is almost dead.

Coryea, don't be fooled by these "local" radio guys. You know as much if not more than they do about this team. We have much stronger needs in the first 2/3 rounds than an ILB. Maybe 3.b pick ? I'd venture to say an impact TE is more important.

Salute the nation

From what I saw Brown finishes "nasty". I do kinda like that.

I can see them taking an ILB early if the right guy is there. I would think he would have to be a guy that leads the defense, someone to wear the dot and call the defense. That would mean they could move Shazier around and let him roam to make plays. You would have someone that could keep everyone lined up. For me, key would be he has to be decent in coverage and have some ability to get his rear down the seam a little and play some zone (I'd think he needs some Tampa-2 traits).

If it's a possible run down Williams is fine, but if it's a passing down isn't that what they want Davis to do? Plus if you have all 4 LBs on the field, that means you're only using 2 DL and that's a mistake as well. 3DL-3LB-5DB should be our primary defense on passing downs

That has been my argument all along, but 3-3-5 isn't the only way it can be played. It can also be played as a 2-4-5, like they did all last season with Timmons and Shazier. Both sets have 5 DBs. In one, you are trading an ILB for a DL. Not much coverage difference in that.

I agree, TMC, but if we are going with only 2DL, out OLB need to rush the qb, Timmons couldn't cover. I'd move Davis to that position where Timmons was on passing downs, so basically that would be 6 DBs. If you're only using g 2DL, then that means Hargrave is probably off the field, I want him pushing the pocket with Heyward and Tuitt.

We need a lb that can cover on our defense scheme. We need a pass rusher. What did we get in Watts, the jury is out, all talk is he has an up side, we seem to be drafting a lot od this lately.
