A prospect that has been hot in the notifications of Steelers fans is that of Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph. Regardless of his impressive play where he threw nearly 5000 yards and 37 touchdowns to only 9 interceptions in his senior season, he also bears striking resemblance to the current veteran gun-slinger for the team, […]

No way Slash. They need defense. BAD. you are missing out on like the 10-14th best defender. You are good at Starter, you have a competent backup. If they get the defender ILB in the first, I dont care if they drop a third and a fifth to move up for Rudolph in tge second. No problem. But you need a day one athlete on defense. I wouldnt be surprised in the least if it is NE who gets Rudolph.

Might be right, I prefer D as well. Just trying to see what they are thinking.

I see the pats moving up, but if they stand

pat

maybe Rudolph is their selection...

something tells me Brady wouldn't approve though

It doesn't make much sense considering they will then be cutting Dobbs without giving him a chance. Swapping one prospect for another. There's no way they're cutting Jones.

I find it funny that the same people who are so against us taking a QB will be the ones laying blame later saying it's Tomlin and Colbert's fault they weren't ready to replace Ben.
Dont count me as one of those. Im fine with being the ***** for a year if Jones isnt the guy. I dont believe you get a franchise QB at 1.28. I know people dream of this seamless transition from Ben to the next guy who is all groomed and ready. Unlikely. If Colbert truley believes Rudolph is upper first round talent that has fallen to them ok. But if it to get a guy. No thanks. I dont think thats the way they do business anyways.

Aaron Rodgers ... 2005 draft 1.24
Not saying Rudolph is Rodgers. But I am saying you CAN find a franchise QB in the late part of the first round. Heck, they've been found in round 2, round 3, round 4 and bagging groceries while playing in the Arena League. Doesn't happen often. But it does happen.

That said, if they take Rudolph, I hope it's in the second after they've addressed a potential defensive upgrade.

ben played in 2004 as a rookie.. and did well. I don't think landry is untouchable.

Id be happy in the second. That would be a deal. If Ben plays two or three more seasons, you might not even know what this guy is when his rookie contract is up. Second, fine. First unnecessary.

I know we think that but do the Steelers? I have been reading the local pundits for the last couple of years constantly say the Steelers like Landry and think he is one of the best backups in the NFL. One of them just recently said their is no way they get rid of Landry, it would be Dobbs. Dobbs has potential. I would hate for him to not even get a chance.

That's just it. Rudolph is just another QB with potential.

Has Dobbs really been given ample opportunity?

Perhaps not. But regardless I am sure he would get some more training camp to see if he has enough to stick.

And who is to say the Steelers haven't seen him enough to access where he is at. They had training camp and a year to look at him...............

Landry is not a good backup. If the Steelers draft Rudolph I see no reason Dobbs can’t beat Jones for a roster spot and push for backup to Ben. If any of them can’t push Jones off the team they aren’t good enough to be on the team anyways.

On paper, I agree with you. But I think the Steelers think much more highly of Landry Jones - as back-up QB - than the fanbase does, that's 100%. They also picked Dobbs high enough last year I can't see them chucking him aside at this point. When Ben proclaimed after the Jags game that he's committed to what - 2-3 more years? - I think that pretty much sealed the deal. The Steelers will wait a few more years to try to draft a new starting QB.

Heck, maybe they do go after Mason Rudolph early, but I would be shocked.

If they pick a QB in the first round, they are drafting for 2022 and not 2018.

The window they have now with Ben requires the D to be addressed, and Bell removing his head from his ***.

Dobbs had a good preseason. He improved every game and came from behind in 2 or 3 games to get us the wins. I liked more of what I saw from Dobbs in 1 preseason, than I did watching all of Jone's preseason combined...

I won't be pissed if they draft Rudolph in the 1st, I won't like it but I won't hate it either, ideally they should trade back and get him then

The way the mocks have been falling, I agree, trading back may be the best option this year. There may be no one left with a 1st round grade when we draft, so why not gather picks? Hopefully 2 2nds and a 4th. That would be ideal. We probably wouldn't get Rudolph though if that happened.

If we draft Rudolph, I would love the Christmas Songs sung by the yinzers:

Rudolph da Pittsburgh Q.B.
Had da most amazing arm.
When yinz see him trow tuchdawns
Better dan a lucky charm

All of da udder north teams
Like ta laugh and call him names
Til' he starts bombin tuchdawns
Putting all dere fans to shame!

Den one foggy Super bowl.
Tomlin came to say
Rudolph with your arm so swol
Get dat seventh Super Bowl!

Den all the Yinzers loved him
Everyone agrees he's great
Rudolph the Pittsburgh Q.B.
Time ta go get number 8!
