That’s certainly a plausible argument to be made. The Steelers most definitely are considering that heavy use dating back to 2012 his last season at MSU.

Tomlin has essentially run this guy very hard and I’ve never agreed with that. I think the opportunity presented itself to reduce his carries was available when Blount was here. Like him or not, Tomlin needed to get him playing time and not run Bell to death. They signed him and forgot about him.

I’m 50/50 on what the team should do. You have to be concerned that if he gets his big pay day here with a big signing bonus or guaranteed money, will he hit a wall like so many before him.

I'm quite ok with letting him walk so long as they don't piddle the money away next year. Keep your next wave of young players that you want. Unfortunately, Shazier won't be part of that. Sign a significant player of need. Draft a running back at 1.32.

Horrible comparison, he is not Bell.

No one like Bell......period

Yards per carry comparison by game (including playoffs):

2014
7 games <4.0
3 games 4.0-4.9
6 games >4.9

2015
2 games <4.0
1 games 4.0-4.9
3 games >4.9

2016
5 games <4.0
2 games 4.0-4.9
8 games >4.9

2017
8 games <4.0
7 games 4.0-4.9
1 games >4.9

Bell was unbelievable in 2016 and the slow start in 2017 definitely took a hit on his numbers. Now I didn't include his rookie year since he transformed himself after his first season, but since then, the Steelers are 25-4 when he has at least 20 carries in a game and they've lost those four games by a combined 21 points (3 of the games by 3 points each, including one in overtime and the New England loss last year, which still ticks me off). I don't want to see the Steelers handicap themselves with a contract, but if I could get a four-year deal done, I'd be willing to spend more because the guy helps this team produce wins when the ball is in his hands.

Let him sign the tag and move on from him after this season. Great player but a selfish one. And he isn't the only great player that has the exact same issues either.

When you look at the Dolphins unloading Jarvis Landry, I wonder why Bell and the Steelers could not do the same.

Unless things work out ( Bell signs a 2-4 year deal before this Tuesday ) , I predict Bell is gone in free agency and likely takes a parting shot at the Steelers. Based on his past twitter replies, this is well within his nature.

i'd be more shocked if he didn't

Because they think keeping Bell gives them a much better chance to win this year and while not perfect, I'm not modeling after a front office that has had their team in the playoffs twice since 2002.

Can't argue facts 448, but I'm of a notion that we could be just as productive if our new co-coordinator uses the players he has to get better results than his predecessor. . jus sayin'

Show me a half way knowledgeable fan who hasn't questioned the lack of playing time for any number of promising young players or the totally unimaginative, totally predictable and downright puzzling game plans that continually pop up on game days.

This guy is replaceable.

The FO apparently thought they still could sign him(Bell) long term.....so obviously they were not going to follow the route the Dolphins took with Laundry.

Running styles are totally different... Bell can be used in space much more.. With our other rb with him under contract he won't be run to the ground IMO . Especially with the versatility of samuels and the downhill style of conners...

Bell can be used in space much more and he could not be run into the ground if the coach thought that way, but he doesn't. I have absolutely zero confidence in Tomlin not running Bell into the ground. Why? Cause he has run him into the ground for five years.
