I remember this kid from the draft last year, seems he had a lot of tools to work with. Glad to see Colbert adding him to the mix.

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to add to their 2020 off-season roster, this time signing wide receiver Anthony Johnson to a Reserve/Future contract.

Undrafted in 2019 out of the University at Buffalo, Johnson spent the 2019 training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Failing to make the Buccaneers 53-man roster, Johnson was signed to the practice squad of the Los Angeles Chargers where he remained for the entirety of the 2019 season.

In his two years at Buffalo, Johnson had double digit touchdowns and over 1,000 yards receiving both seasons. In his junior year, Johnson caught 76 passes for 1,356 yards and 14 touchdowns. As a senior, Johnson caught 57 passes for 1,011 yards and 11 touchdowns.

In the Tampa Bay Buccaneers preseason game at Heinz Field in Week 1 of the 2019 preseason, Johnson had three catches for 33 yards. For the entire preseason, Johnson had five catches for 57 yards.

I don't understand the Steelers when they keep brining in Z receivers. Now we have Cain, Washington, AJ, and Holton that all play Z. 2 will stick. We Switzer and Juju in the slot and DJ with Quadree on the X. I'd like to see more possession X receivers.

I do think AJ has a shot. I like his hands, size, and the way he uses his body to box out defenders, however he doesn't appear to be fast, so having another average speed player on the edge, will not really extend the defense the way we need it to.
 
At his size, if he runs a 4.5, that is more than adequate speed. And, watching some of his highlights, he just finds the ball and catches it. Hopefully, he makes that leap from year 1 to 2 and we can find a diamond here.
 
no need to bring Switzer back let Johnson handle PR duties and Washington man the slot.
 
Let him and Cain compete similar size I think Cain is a half step faster let him and a mid rnd pick compete for a spot, If Funchess is released he could be had for vet min as I think where indy will pick they will opt for a long term #2 WR who could be a long term 1 once Hilton is done or slide Hilton to 2 like guys like Lamb Higgins Peoples-Jones

I see no reason to bring Holton back. find someone better in the draft mid or late rounds like Gandy-Golden 6"4 220 last 2 years 10 TD per yr and 14+ ypc

Switzer, to me, shouldn't even be a consideration. The guy adds nothing and takes up a valuable roster spot that could go to somebody that actually contributes something more than nothing.

This is what i took from the highlight video. Big body and knows how to use his size. Seems to have excellent hands and really good at dominating in contested catch situations. The down side seems to be there were a lot of contested catch situations cause he didn't look very fast and wasn't getting a lot of separation. Not a great sign in college in terms of translating to the Pros. I also liked his "matter of fact" manner after the plays were over. Just flipped the ball to the ref - no "look at me" attitude.
 
Camp body but he’s young with a year of NFL coaching under his belt. I think a late round draft pick and then keep the best after the obvious three JuJu, Johnson, and Washington who will make it. Let Cain, Switz, Holton, Johnson, draft pick fight it out.

A guy I really like late is James Proche from SMU. Smooth route runner with glue for hands. Doesn’t look fast or big so will drop to round 6 or later. But I feel he will make an NFL roster and might be a solid #2 receiver.

I think with the size we lack at WR a big redzone target like Gandy-Golden will help is in the red zone esp if we draft a big lanky TE or use Gentry in the red zone to give a perfect balance of size and speed when we go 4 wide 1 RB

Agreed, and he wasn't getting separation in his lowly division of football. NFLers are way to fast.
