Looks like JJ Wilcox might be retained with a restructured contract.

I would guess if he refuses then the axe would fall.

Don't know why they would want to keep him. They deactivated him most of the time after picking him up.

They were saving him..

I'd assume if he comes back at a lower cap hit it's to keep the spot warm until they can find a better option with Mitchell getting cut in the process.

I don't have a problem with that. I thought the (extremely small sample size) time he was in on defense, he wasn't that bad. I take him at a reduced rate over Mitchell for free any day.

With that said, we still need to get a starter either in FA or early in the draft.

POSSIBLY but there a time durring the season I'd wished they would have pulled Mitchell and inserted Wilcox. It would have been a VERY tough outing for Wilcox to actually be worse than Mitchell.

Salute the nation

trade bait so we can go up and get Barkley..............

ok no more.

Figured this would happen. They aren't going into the season without a veteran presence. If Wilcox gets a new contract it basically assures us that Mitchell is gone.

If they cut both then they would have to sign a free agent and address the situation in the draft. Better to keep Wilcox short term and go get a safety via the draft.

JJ was MUCH better than Mitchel in the very limited time he was on the field at safety. If he hadn't been such a dumb *** on special teams, he may have gotten more playing time.

I like the move. No I love the move. As Cope stated, this signals the end of Mitchel, but it also gives us quality depth at S.
