He was asked this morning about Thornill's quote saying we can be one of the best defenses of all time.

Tomlin said, "we have the talent and we have the schematics, to do big big things, and by big things I mean historical things"

HAHAHA, like are we going to give up 50 points and 400 yards rushing in the next playoff game???

WTF is he talking about, I'm guessing he wasn't paying attention last December and in the playoffs, when he didn't know Pickens showed up 2 hours late to the KC game.

Schematics??????? Does he really believe what he's saying?

My brain must not be remembering correctly, Pickens showed up 2 hours late? That was when he was injured?

He arrived after the inactive lists were turned in, then when Tomlin was asked about it, he said "I don't remember"

Mikey’s selective memory must’ve blacked out his past schematic genius when he turned a generational talent in Watt into Jarvis Jones in his last game.

Yes, the schemes definitely have the ability to do historical things indeed. Never knew he’d have the schematic power to uncork such a bottle of suck.

Huh? Let’s see now! Two rookies on the defensive line that have a lot to prove. Cam Hayward is now 36 and oh, he’s holding in. Benton, took a step back last year.
TJ will be 31 this fall and disappeared late last season and the playoff debacle.
Highsmith is ok as a side kick to TJ but nothing special.
Then you have newly acquired Darius Slay who is what, 34. Ramsey who is on the other side of 30 and now on his fourth team, and Porter who has a lot to prove. Refs will have a sharp eye on him this year you can bet on it.
ILBer you have Queen who was imo disappointing last year. Another one with a lot to prove.
How in the **** does he get historical from that group? I’d be extremely happy if they could be a top ten defense.

Historic........................... are we talking bettering than the last 5yrs of Tomlin's defenses.................?

Surly he jests should he be talking real HISTORIC defenses....................................

Where do you think the team gets it's "all talk no walk" attitude............. one guess

Burrow's gonna throw for an even 1,000 is what he means.

What now concerns me is cool shades has created prime bulletin board material for the Steelers opponents this season.
This defense over the years with changing pieces here and there has largely been a major disappointment. They’ve won exactly NOTHING.
Four years in a row the highest paid defense. They got steamrolled last year by the Eagles, Bengals, Chiefs, Ravens.
This is really getting concerning with these players running their big mouths and now the the head coach talking about historical defense.
Do we not remember that this Tomlin lead defense QUIT on the Ravens in the playoffs?
This defense is showing up big time this summer against an Artie Smith led offense. Are you kidding me?

By "historical things," MT of course means that this defense can be good enough to help add yet another year to his historic Never-Had-A-Losing-Season paradigm.

We need Josh Pray (Fake Coach Tomlin) to weigh in on this.

I must agree that for him to suggest the D has the talent to do things of historical proportions is quite a bold statement.

When you measure it against Steeler Defensive historical proportions, that's a tall, tall task.

Pick an era,70's,90,s, 2005,2008 or even 2010.

Speaking of historic proportions.
AI has it wrong in terms of best ever D in points allowed.
Steelers should be #2, not the Rats.
9.9 < 10.2

The Atlanta Falcons defense from 1977, nicknamed the "Grits Blitz," allowed the fewest points per game in NFL history with just 9.2 points allowed per game, according to StatMuse. In the modern era (since 1961), the 2000 Baltimore Ravens defense ranks second, allowing 10.3 points per game, according to a Reddit thread and StatMuse.

Here's a more detailed look:
  • 1977 Atlanta Falcons: This defense, led by coach Marion Campbell, is widely regarded as one of the best in NFL history. They allowed just 9.2 points per game, a record that still stands.

  • 2000 Baltimore Ravens: This defense, led by Ray Lewis, was dominant, allowing only 10.3 points per game. They also set records for fewest rushing yards allowed (970) and fewest total points allowed (165) in a 16-game season.

  • 1976 Pittsburgh Steelers: This Steelers defense allowed 9.9 points per game.

The Falcons was a surprise for me. Let alone it was in 1977!
I predict this D will prove Tomlin right and we allow < 9.2 !

He has to say something to save face from past debacles. The trouble is everytime he says something like this the hole gets deeper.
