Do you think Bell is going to be as good as his first two years this season? He's suffered 2 knee injuries over the last two seasons (possible injury prone). Something about that isn't sitting well with me. Should we be grooming or looking for a 3rd back to get things done as well? Thoughts?

Bell seemingly expects big things out of this season as he's holding off contract talks until "he's certain of the status of his knee." IE he doesn't want to sign a crappy extension when there's a chance he can put up huge numbers and get a MUCH larger contract if he's the MAN.

On the other hand, if he DOES get hurt again, he's screwed epic-style. He obviously feels pretty good about himself. I would like very much to believe he's right. A stellar season on his end could go a long way toward making the Steelers the team to beat this year.

Hell yes I'm worried he might not come back 100%.

What was the question?

Extremely tough contract to figure. Pretty tough to let him walk, but I'd put him at the same stage as AB in terms of productivity remaining. He has had two bad knee injuries and a hellacious concussion. They have BADLY overused him to this point. He can't have any more than half tread left on the tires in my opinion, he is like a 6 or 7 year guy. That is a lot of blame to be put on Tomlin there. If you play a guy at running back the amount of snaps in the modern game he will get hurt. Just no way around it.

While the surgery success rate is good, it's rare to see a running back come back at 100% mentally and physically from a bad knee injury. Adrian Peterson is a rare example of a player who did.

With 2 knee injuries in two years, I do not think Bell will be as good as he was last year. The Steelers openly admitted to more of a two-back attack plan this season, lighting Bell's workload and using a near equally good, and much cheaper Williams more often.

If you ask me, running the ball on our team is easier than most. We have ag good OL, Ben, and great skill players. As such there is more room to run.

I do not want to give any running back franchise type money over 4 years or more, which is what Bell's agent will be asking for when his contract expires.

Very few running backs are worth that type of money, and those who need to prove they can stay healthy and clear of off the field issues.

When did the Steelers say this?? The Steelers said they will try to get Williams more carries now that they are comfortable with what he can do and will utilize some 2 RB sets but have not said they will have a more RB by committee as you sound like you are saying in your post.. if healthy Bell will be the man and will carry the heavy workload. They have suggested they will try to find some carries for Williams but stated it's hard because Bell doesn't like to come out the game..

Haley on Bell:

Haley predicted Bell would be "as good as new" by Week 1, basing that forecast on "just knowing him and what we’ve seen of him in the past." Haley was a bit more evasive when asked if the Steelers might lessen Bell's workload after DeAngelo Williams' monster 2015 season. "It will be a lot easier to give Le’Veon some rest when he needs it, although he never wants to come off (the field)," Haley said. "We’ve seen D-Will for a full year in our offense and doing the things the way we do them, so I think it’s an exciting thing to look forward to."

Lets see, Bell gets hurt the year before last in the final game of the season, comes back and despite the suspension was in the top 5 in the LEAGUE in all rushing stats before he got hurt against the Bengals who clearly are out to injure people...and you people are wondering if he can do it again? People say that Peterson is the exception not the rule, but why was Peterson able to come back like he did? His work ethic... has anyone ever questioned Bell's work ethic? Nope, he gets praised for it, and is one of the hardest working players on the team, and that's saying something when you have Harrison and Brown on the roster. Bell is going to be just fine, as long as the Bengals don't take him out again.

Oh he will be fine this year. No doubt in my mind. But if you are prepares to pay what he will command as a free agent you have to grab your balls and hope he is good for four years.

Even if he has a average year or slightly less, someone will pay him. He knows it, his agent knows it. The STEELERS know it. No surprise to anyone. What is comes down to is what kind of deal and guaranteed $$$. VS. years.

Salute the nation

I'd entertain trade offers for him. The whole Captain Sweatpants thing is getting old.

Seriously trade the best back in the league who is only 24. Who injuries had nothing to do with how he trains are prepares but because the Bengals are cheap shot artists. Ok.

If you were being sarcastic then Nevermind lol

I don't think you could get enough for him in a trade to make it worth it.

You would have to trade him for a player drafted in the same year with a very low cap number.
