Like everybody, i was beyond frustrated with both the browns tie and chiefs loss. But i wanted to give it a few days before commenting too much. It's not the 0-1-1 record that bothers me. The browns are an improved team and there was the horrible weather. The chiefs are a dangerous team as well, so a loss was always possible.

It's the way the steelers have lost that is alarming. More precisely, it's the fact that we are seeing the same pattern repeated again and again.

They come out flat. This is a combination of overconfidence seemingly every week, lack of intensity in the 1st quarter, and a gameplan that appears to be completely wrong so they have to scrap it and try things on the fly.

There is no discipline. Way too many penalties, and blown assignments all over the place. There's only 2 possibilities, the coaches aren't doing the job of teaching, or the players are too dumb.

This chiefs game isn't just a loss. It's a sign that we are about to watch another wasted season where they win their division then get smoked in the playoffs by a team that will exploit their weaknesses. Weaknesses that will be repeated almost weekly and not fixed.

Edmunds is a rookie so maybe he will learn quickly and be a steadying force. But even if that happens, i have no faith that we won't still see plays where by design, Vince Williams is trying to cover Gronk or Watt is trying to cover a WR.

I have long been a card-carrying member of The Mike Tomlin Apologist Society. It’s true.

Whenever people want him fired, I laugh and respond with inconvenient facts like his career winning percentage (.656), or, say, his 20-3-1 record in the previous 24 regular-season games as of Sunday morning.

But my membership has never meant putting Tomlin above criticism — and as we sit here now, a long ways from Sunday morning, in the wake of a disastrous performance against the Kansas City Chiefs, he is more deserving of criticism than at any time in his 12-year tenure.

This team stinks.

It’s not just that the Steelers are 0-1-1 after their 42-37 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Or that they tied the ridiculous Cleveland Browns last weekend. Or that they have committed 23 (accepted) penalties and countless mental errors in those two games (I think Bud Dupree just jumped offside again).

It’s more than that.

That was one of the worst defensive performances in franchise history.

Tomlin wins because our talent over rides his "player's" coach mentality. I realize Cowher had his deficiencies but also realize with Cowher at the helm several more Super Bowl Lambardi's would be in our possession.

Remember last year the defense could not get off the field and five games we came back to win in the fourth. WE still have the same coverage in the secondary, same tackling problems. Hoping this turns but could be a bad year. Throw in all the media talk with Bell and now Brown, then throw in coaches we continue to question it just keeps adding to the frustration of the past two games.
 
The injury to Haden was a significant one and I agree that the Chiefs will be doing that to a lot of people this year. And the Bucs are hot right now so 0-2-1 against a red hot QB is entirely possible going into the Ravens game with Atlanta to follow.

This could get very ugly very quickly and now we have OL injuries? Brace yourselves SN for a ****** season unless something radical happens in terms of team chemistry, fundamental play and playcalling.

Ben has a deep bone bruise to his elbow, AB is slowed with a calf injury, oh yeah, this is a must win game
 
The defense would be much more effective just switching to more man coverage. I reviewed many of the big pass plays from Sundays game and the receivers are initially covered well.
The problem arises when the initial coverage drops off and the zone coverage is suppose to pick up the man. Seems like the KC QB knew when the initial coverage was releasing and
delivered the ball to the receiver before the deeper zone coverage picked up the receiver. Many of these passes would not have been completed if the initial coverage person had stayed
with their man.

it appeared to me that he did it more than it was called. I'm quite sure the refs gave him a warning or two before actually calling it.

You have to let gunslingers be gunslinger and sometimes they get shot down. Or we could have a coach that controller the dumbass that’s the qb. Great talent but not smart and needed a coach that controlled him not let be a gunslinger

true - except for when the play results in an incompletion or run for no minimal gain. then, thanks to Durpee, the offense gets to try again.
 
It truly is time to fire Mike Tomlin. There is no other argument to be had. He's lost the team. The lack of game planning and preparation can only be covered up by great offensive talent for so long. The defense is beyond confused out there and that falls directly on the head coach.

This. What's the only half of football where the D looked like a strength? The first half of the Browns game when it was almost exclusively man to man. Haden is a damn good player but his absence had no bearing on Burns getting torched or safeties being out of position or ILB's covering fast WR's, so it had to be a scheme change with Haden's injury simply being the catalyst.

Everyone just looked lost running zone which has happened too many times to count whenever they run a zone heavy scheme since the end of the LeBeau era.

Man to man allows the defense to dictate the matchups instead of vice versa. Andy Reid has faced our zone too many times to have the zone "confuse" him. He knew how to attack it, just as Belichek has always known how to attack it. When we run zone the same exact issues keep recurring (mismatches, blown assignments, lack of a pass rush, etc.) so just stop. Why do the coaches make it seem like rocket science?

No doubt our secondary sucks against KC without our best CB, Haden. They actually played well against Cleveland. Sutton has been disappointing and Hilton had the worst game of his two year career against the Chiefs.

Chin himself had plenty of chances as well. 4 home losses in the AFC Championship alone....the remaining 8 well we got cheated on by the Pats. Tenn punter pulled off a acting job.....would’ve, could’ve, should’ve dates back all the to the 90s....

And if his much-heralded Pro Bowl center didn't have season-ending injuries at the worst possible times.
