Ok. I've been watching our beloved Steelers for some time. This aint my first rodeo and I know it isn't your either.

Every year we see the preseason hoopla. We get all excited about Rookie this or camp breakout that. We see a quarter or two from the starters and we feel like "By Golly, this is something special!"

And then the season starts.

Let me break this down for you. Mike Tomlin is NOT a morning person. Mike is NOT going to wake up until October. The Steelers may win tonight. It's possible. But it's far more likely, particularly with the suspensions, the injuries and the history of Tomlin's early season lethargy that the team will limp out of the gate for the first few games.

For whatever reason, the Steelers just don't have a killer instinct until late in the slasher film when the young "near virgin" is being stalked by the ruthless killer and she has to make some bold choices and do some pretty ruthless **** herself to survive. That's the Steelers.

Early on, they're the dopey kids getting sliced and bludgeoned and gutted at every turn because they're too busy smokin' dope or hooking up in tents with a serial killer (cough cough Burfict) on the loose.

At some point Mike Tomlin needs to figure out that the first 3 or 4 games of the season count too and that the team actually needs to be ready to play in early September. That'd be awesome. But I really don't expect it. I'd love it. I'll be thrilled if I see it. But I don't expect it.

Will the offense do ok? Probably. And by ok, I really mean, Ok. Will the defense be respectable? I'm not that confident there. I expect the Run Defense will do it's job. However I expect the Pass Defense will allow the usual 350+ yards per game and 20+ points. Not necessarily because the defense is terrible. But because the team just isn't ready. They don't have the killer instinct necessary to put their foot on the other guy's throats and press for 59 minutes. We don't even need 60, we just need 59. Give them a minute of happy feel-good time. Then spend the rest of the game making them feel as though the huns have invaded their homeland and are pillaging their villages and taking their women and children and that there is nothing whatsoever they can do about it.

That would be frickin awesome.

Instead, we'll probably see Tomlin standing on the sideline with his arms crossed watching passively as the Redskins methodically move the ball downfield to get into scoring position on 4 out of 5 possessions in the first half. Then we'll see the amazing non-adjustments in the 2nd half. We'll merely need to rely on the fact that the other teams adjustments suck *** worse than the Steelers non-adjustments.

Anyway, here's hoping I'm completely off on the slow start this year and that things get off really really well. Mike, by all means unleash purgatory!

Welp, we have some help from Tress Way's mom. She burned the terrible towel! :D

Oh, I'd never do THAT! That's Blaspheming!

I agree with a lot of what you say. I do think Kirky throws the ball at will on us, I think our run D vs their run O is a win for us. I think our offense will be better than you think. Williams, AB, Ben still all professionals and sprinkle in some DHB, Coates, and the outlaw to keep them honest and 25-35 points is not out of the question. This is my hope and it is just a hope but we play a little more loose and make a few key defensive plays. A few timely blitzes and sacks or at least enough pressure for an arrant throw. A key INT late in the game to give us a nice lead or the go ahead TD. Or perhaps because of the punters Mom AB returns one for a TD and drop kicks Tress Way in the face. I don't think we kill them but I think we can do enough to get the W.

I view Wig's assessment as sad but true. And it has cost them playoff positioning the last two years.

I'm not saying the Steelers aren't the better team. I'm saying once again Tomlin and the Steelers just aren't quite ready for the season.

It's just a thing with them. Drives me crazy but there it is.

Eli Rogers returns two punts for TDs and catches 3 TD passes in a Steelers romp.....

One of these days I'm gonna tell ya how I feel about Tomlin.

I think our offense will be a thing of beauty to watch. I even told some non-football fans to watch our offense just for the entertainment value.

Defense? Eh.

Players play, coaches coach. They players need to execute. When the team comes out flat its not because of the coach. The team needs to execute their game plan.

Big Ben is gonna be the next Picaso. This offense is gonna be so beautful. Opera singers will cry out of sheer beauty. I am excited

I've had my ups and downs with Coach T.

I respect that somehow or another he manages to continually get the team to the playoffs more often than not. It has to be argued that this is "his" team now as virtually all of Cowher's players are gone. True, in my opinion his clock management and challenging skills are terrible. However year after year, the Steelers manage to compete for the division generally and almost always get at least a wild-card spot.

Unfortunately, I also feel as though the team generally starts slowly. I feel as though the team lacks some degree of a killer instinct. Is that Tomlin's fault? I don't know. Maybe it's Haley. Maybe it's Butler not being more aggressive on defense, I don't know. But it feels like the Steelers are almost always "reactive". It seems as if the team is always backed into a corner and fighting for that last crumb.

Just once I'd like to see a dominant ***-kicking Madden like season where the team just rips the **** out of everyone. What the hell. We can drop a game. I'd even give a game to the Browns if we could just dominate the **** out of the rest of the league for the rest of the year.

But... You know. Parity. What are you gonna do? Blame Tomlin, I guess. That's the easiest way.

Does anyone really know what to expect tonight with the preseason football we play. Players missing, not sure who is ready to step in place of, Tomlin does not seem to get teams ready, we as fans see no identity in the team lately, so it is no wonder the comments are all over the place.

Bottom line though, the players have to get their jobs done. There's no grey area. We need to take care of the football, finish drives with TDs and not FGs and not let our secondary get tore up.

I think we need to out score them. I don't think we will stop a whole lot on the back end.

I'm really just hoping that Deebo gets a sack or two.

I desperately want him to get the team sack record this season.

Many, including Mike and Mike have the Steelers in the Super Bowl. I don't know man. The AFC gonna be extremely competitive, more so this year than past. Raiders look to be tough, KC, Jets , bungles,,,then your usuals NE and Den,

Tell me I don't know what I'm talking about and that those teams suck and I'll be happy!

Mmmm, Crow!

I'm gonna have leftovers too after tonight. Lotta crow here.

I have said in the past that I thought Mike T was a work in progress a couple seasons ago I thought he was getting better. I will say monday night the whole coaching staff looked more than decent. Mike made three real clutch decisions last night that really contributed to the game being won. Both of the go for it on 4th downs that converted and the third time taking the field goal. I have to say it good coaching cool shades. The game plan was not a flashy one on either side of the ball. It was a smart one. The plan was designed to highlight the strengths of the steelers in both phases and it did. The defense was in a bend but don't break mode all night and was designed to keep the other team bogged down and hope for mistakes to put the steelers in winnable down and distance situations that plan worked very well. Tip of the hat to the players and coaches.
