Landry Jones to be traded? There is some talk

Can’t cut Dobbs or Rudolph.. both are developing and showing promise. Dobbs was excellent last night. You can’t cut him. Landry has experience but half the talent of Dobbs or Rudolph. Sorry but he’s the odd man out here. Get what you can

Not being an assistant coach on the sidelines, but just a casual fan, I have no idea the value of Landry on the bench with a clip board. Does his value there override the up an coming youngsters?

And I have no idea if there is any interest in Jones across the league, other than the Steelers.

Do I agree with your scenario? No. I respectfully disagree.

First off Landry isn’t being traded. It’s been discussed since last year when Dobbs was drafted that Ben is more comfortable during games because Landry can see things on the sidelines that Ben can’t see. He always asks for input from Landry when he’s coming off the field because Landry knows the offense about as well as Ben does. It’s like having a second pair of eyes looking at the formations & coverages, etc. He wouldn’t have that comfort level or confidence with two guys who doesn’t have that command of the offense to see things like a veteran offers.

Second, from the games themselves, Dobbs has outperformed Rudolph this preseason. Mason is playing like Dobbs did last year. He has gotten better with each game prep. Dobbs has shown much more consistency and understanding of the offensive scheme, check downs, patience...etc. His TD to Patterson was a good example. Stepping out of the pocket and rifling the pass was a smart play. Last year Dobbs would have kept the ball and ran. So Joshua has shown much promise to be a competent signal caller. However, I expect Mason if he doesn’t get any snaps this year to be much farther ahead next training camp than Dobbs was this year. He has a higher ceiling than Dobbs, plain and simple.

Hopefully a phantom injury occurs and Dobbs is placed on IR. But CAR will be looking at Dobbs and one of our corners for a possible trade. Their QB situation behind Newton is laughable at best...and Dobbs skill set may actually mirror Newton’s offense better. CAR also needs another corner. So watch who gets a lot of snaps tonight. I’ve heard Sensabaugh has been floating on the writers sheet as trade block material.

If some team offered a high draft pick for Landry would the Steelers move him knowing he will be gone next year and have Dobbs for a few more years on the cheap?

If Tomlin had a vision both Dobbs and Rudolph have a big up swing, I will be first to admit I thought Dobbs was a bad pick but his improvement from last year is unbelievable. Is jones that good of a backup to the Steelers we will see by tomorrow but if the team wants to take a chance these two QB's look the part in both styles of play.

I'm trading either Jones or Dobbs if the offer is right. I do NOT carry 4 QBs. Jones is UFA after the year so by getting rid of Dobbs we would need to add a QB. Keeping Dobbs and Rudolph gives us two young backup QBs.

I guess out of the 3 backups the only true known is that Rudolph will be on the roster.

It's a tough spot for the Steelers. Right now, Jones probably gives the Steelers a better chance to win one or two games if he needs to step in. If any QB other than Ben is under center for a long period of time, the season is over anyway. I'm leaning toward keeping Dobbs because of the length of his contract.

Dobbs has more of an upside. We already know Jones is a career backup. Trade Jones, we would be out his signing bonus but would save the rest of his cap hit of 1.9 million.

Landry would be gone, if I had any say...

Berm,........when YOU speak........ EVERYBODY listens.............................................

Bye bye Landry for a 5th rnd pick or whisky of Cope's picking but Berm gets to drink, straight shots till gone

Salute the nation

It's surprising, but it's the right move. Dobbs and Rudolph give you so much more upside than Landry, and we save 1.5M! That's a big deal.

The problem with Jones, he was done after this year. Dobbs and Rudolph are locked up for years!! This is great. Dobbs will be Rudolph's backup when he's ready to start, but gives us a different offense with Dobbs at the helm. I'm interested to see if we do more option plays. Dobbs would be a great option QB. Rudloph could handle it too if Ben got hurt. That's how the Eagles won the championship.
