First & foremost, I take my hat off to a phenomenal season for the Baltimore Ravens. They are indeed having one of those very “special” seasons where are you can just feel the difference, the ball bounces your way, the chemistry and the confidence.

Throughout 2005 and 2008 that was a feeling that we as Steeler fans definitely felt.

That being said, Baltimore better get it done this year because that window with Lamar Jackson is going to be very limited.

I don’t care that he’s going to win the MVP. Quite frankly so once did the likes of Brian Sipe, Rich Gannon, Steve McNair & Cam Newton.

Ben Roethlisberger & Drew Brees never won an MVP despite being All-Time greats. Who would you rather have?

I don’t care that he led the league in touchdown passes with 36. It was only four years ago that Blake Bortles through 35 touchdown passes. How did he turn out?

The simple fact is Jackson is a great running back who can throw the football at an NFL level. I’m not sitting here hoping that he gets injured, but it is incredibly naïve to expect that he can maintain the pace of his play without taking hits that while do not cause “injury” but do not result in “hurting”.

Perhaps were the one team that knew how to play him this year (thanks again Minkah Fitzpatrick) — but despite all the praise that he has lumped upon him, it’s never pointed out how the Ravens have played almost the entire season either with the lead or in a one score game.

Passing the ball when there is little threat of the offense running gets a lot tougher. Some of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history have struggled without the threat of a running game (including Big Ben, Terry Bradshaw, John Elway, Brett Favre and more.)

The viability of Jackson keeping defenses off-balance with that speed of his has sustainability of 2-3 years max.

Just look at Le’Veon Bell: what he did in 2014, 2015 and 2016 was incredible. And while the pure statistics did not reveal it in 2017, we all saw that slow down and now he’s as pedestrian as any back in the NFL. These guys are just too big too fast and too strong to last taking hits from.

So as bizarre as it might say good luck Baltimore. This is your shot and if you don’t win it it will be a year that will be hard to shake.

Lord knows as Steelers fans we’ve had our share of those seasons too.

Not sure Tennessee is the team to take them out. I definitely see KC able to take them out. Houston would be an interesting matchup for the Rats with similar QBs, although Watson is clearly the better QB.

We all know that a mobile QB is going to take more hits than a pocket QB and over time that will wear them down. He's done well this year and their record reflects that. There's no hiding in the playoffs. If the Titans can figure out how to keep him from scrambling, this weekend could be interesting for them.

Not that the Titans will beat them but they have the formula to do it. The clowns destroyed them by running. Is there a better RB in the playoffs than Henry? Is there a better OL?

I didn't like Jackson when he was drafted because of his throwing issues. I don't think those have changed. The coaches have found a way for him to be a quasi RB/QB. It's difficult to defend but not impossible.

If they hit him on every play he will slow down, and lose his will. Just like Cam Newton.

History will repeat itself. Obviously the rats currently are maximizing the talent. I like how the coaching staff has moved from the normal convection to the more risky custom type scheme. Jackson will have to show his toughness for more than a couple years to NOT be considered a flash in the pants. Can he as the ,ore film comes the more hits.

One question is can he be a passing CONSISTANT accurate QB? Many think not and while on the move he will be more accurate than when he becomes less mobile simply because when moving he has way less read options as opposed to pocket passing. Simply put, less reads makes him more accurate with less time to think (reactionary). Pocket passing allows way more decisions to be made and quite frankly That is where I think Lamae will struggle. To many split seconds for the decisions required.

Maybe he proves us all wrong but as a previous poster said, capitalize on it now because he will be damaged goods soon.

Salute the nation

Frankly it looks like their year. They will roll Tenn with their run only game. Tenn will be lucky to score more than 10. If KC makes it to the AFCCG (and I assume they will). That will be a good match up. Unfortunately, we all know how Reid has done in these games. I believe Jackson will be solved in the long run. We have all seen this movie before. But they will be real dangerous until that happens.

Anything can happen and will. What this season has shown is that the running game and a good defense can take you far. Steelers would be wise to upgrade their RB , Foster and or Feiler. I would go RB with the first draft pick and bring in a RT upgrade. I think this team is closer to some great things than some people think. But better off-season decisions need to be made.

As much as he runs, Lamar will suffer a significant injury in the next 2 years. It's almost a given. How he bounces back will determine his career.

Hairball built his team strategy to exploit the talents of his playmakers instead of trying to pound players who don't fit the strategy into it. This is a concept that is foreign to our coaching staff.

You are partially correct. If you notice their draft strategy for the past 3 years it was to move to a ball control, rushing offense. They did it because of the vacuum left from all teams going to a passing attack, and are ahead of the trend. Pats did the same thing. They drafted the players to fit that system.

i think the comment in the OP related to them always playing with a lead is an important one. This basically allows them to dictate their gameplan on both sides of the ball, but most impactful from an offensive standpoint. That is why i think KC is the team that can take them down due to their explosive offensive that isn't going to panic or over-adjust if they go down by 1-2 scores.

Another year and another excuse. This will continue to happen. You can be mad and unfollow me that’s fine. He’s exciting but he’s not the answer. Take your pick on who to blame for the #Ravens but at the end of the day #8 touches the ball every play. #itoldyall

BWAhahahahahaha

Spending all my time on the Rats board now, lots of threads predicting how they were going to beat KC

Hahahahahahahahahaha

Game thread was hilarious too

Hahahahahahaha

Ravens havnt won a playoff game since 2014

Lamar 0-2 in the playoffs

Hahahahahahaha

Not sure who could see that one coming. It wasn't like I couldn't see Jackson slipping up. I just thought their whole team was way too good and the Titans snuck in and slipped by the Pats. When you have the best team in the tournament and don't win you pay for that. Those opportunities only come around so often. More film on Jackson next year.

**** the Rats.

That moment when you think you have Mike Vick and end up with Kordell Stewart.

#MVP...

Kordell 2.0

Shades of 1997 & 2001 — those great regular seasons meant jack when playing from behind when you cannot pass

1997, Kordell lead the league in TDs.

How window was short, but there was a time when he was the ****.

Then they used all that film and realized the only thing he was worse at than reading a D was throwing after he broke the pocket.

It did feel to me like the ravens went all in on this offense for this year. They have to know that running your QB like this is not sustainable. It seems like they decided to risk their QB now before he gets paid any real money and try to take the league by storm.

I thought Jackson would have a bad season but that was based on the assumption that the ravens were going to expand the playbook for him and try to make him more of a pocket passer with some option mixed in there. I never would have thought a team would put their franchise QB at such risk by design.

It makes me wonder, do the ravens think Jackson will never be that pocket passer so that's why they are not concerned with risking him so much? Are they already planning on just riding this option thing until the wheels fall off and then get a new QB?

The question is, will they do this again next year? One would think that if they truly do believe Jackson is they franchise guy then they have to start removing some of the runs and making him more of a passer.

We've seen the option succeed in the short term many times but once a team has real success with it, as the ravens did, defense take it more seriously. They devote offseason film study and then it kind of goes away.

Raven fans will likely be thinking they'll be just as good next year, but they should be very worried. The Titans really did lay down a blueprint. And the scary part is that the Titans defense is not loaded with stars. They have good players but what they did was not based on stellar individual play. It was based on disciplined team play. In other words, lots of teams can follow this plan. The Steelers can as well.

The NFL is and always will be a league for pocket passing QB's. I don't think Jackson will ever be one.

Jackson, one fumble, 2 interceptions. Sounds like Kordell.

The option is tough to defend, but with enough film study and more importantly discipline, it becomes much easier. Once a defense figures it out paired with an offense that can get a double digit lead, you won’t lose many games to these types of teams. Sadly i’m the NFL you have too many arrogant coaches and players looking to make plays rather than to stick to their assignments so Baltimore will still have plenty of success with this offense.

True, but unless he becomes a qb that is athletic like Russell Wilson and not an athlete that plays QB he will not have long term success. And anyone can name 6 or 7 guys like this who absolutely dropped everyone's jaw with his athleticism and ended up flamming out.
