Kovacevic: Um, fake punt? Really? What was that? ?

Berry was a runner at that point, no different than a RB.

The play that should have been flagged for a hit to the head was on Samuels when his lid was knocked off. How the hell the refs missed it (considering his helmet went flying), I have no earthly idea.

I'm not sure how common it is around the league, but having the default option built into a punt play is totally reckless, especially considering it is predicated on last second communication from the sideline, and we saw why yesterday.

Either call the fake before the punt unit takes the field or don't.

How are you going to call it from the sideline, when you don’t know what look you’re going to get until you line up? It HAS to be a default option.

Easy to play Monday morning QB, but things happen quickly in real time. Lots of split second decisions. Some by coaches, some by players.

As I just said in another thread, why even consider a fake there?

They were up 10 points with less than 8 minutes left. They were in their own territory and it wasn't like they needed just a yard or two to convert

You’re missing the point. No one called the fake. It was installed before the game. If we get “this look,” then we run the fake. You can’t know in advance what look you might get. The confusion came in where everyone but Berry got the word NOT to run it (just what you’re suggesting). It was called off because of the situation, they actually got what they wanted - which was eight blockers on six rushers. It was a communication error, not a bad play call.

The point should be WHY would anyone go onto the field at that point thinking that running a fake was an option REGARDLESS of what the personnel was on the other side of the line. Second, if our punt fake with +5 yards to the first down involves Berry running the ******* ball, whoever designed that play is an idiot.

Can’t answer you that. Everyone got the word but Berry. Sorry no one consulted you before designing the play, but it obviously works. Professionals who get paid a lot more than you or I installed it because it does work when the numbers are in your favor, just not when not everyone is on the same page.

No one is disputing that it was a bad call in that situation. It’s just one of those cases where **** happens, and fortunately it worked out.

It isn't just that **** happens. If you design a play it is real easy to say only when on their side of the field. This **** happened because it was allowed to happen.

That fake punt is definitely on Tomlin's Greatest Hits. If we'd have lost it would be near the top of the charts.

You have to give him credit for getting the team where it is right now. But then he pulls **** like that and it has you bangin your head off the wall going wtf.
