When the Steelers submit the No. 22 selection in the NFL Draft late Thursday night, only two guarantees will apply, as I see it:

1. They won’t fare as badly as the Browns did with that exact pick in two of the past three drafts, going with Brandon Weeden’s great-grandfather three years ago, then Johnny ‘Anything But Football’ Manziel last year. And I predict only that because, as Kevin Colbert reiterated today in the team’s annual pre-draft media session, “I think we’re kind of set at quarterback.” As opposed to, you know, going through a couple every other Sunday.

So, huzzah on on that count.

2. They’ll do what they’ve always done with the 22nd overall pick, which is to take a cornerback.

No, really, that happened on the only previous occasion: Ron Johnson, Class of 1978 out of Eastern Michigan, was a solid contributor for Chuck Noll’s secondary for seven seasons.

Since then?

Nice to see Colbert start to take some heat in the media.

I think he's been overrated as long as he's been here. I had some harsh rants for him in the past.
