By Jessica Costello SteelerNation.com Although the Coronavirus pandemic continues to put a stop on the sports world, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell decided the NFL Draft will continue as planned — with a few changes. The league’s annual draft will be held from April 23rd to 25th still, but won’t be held in Las Vegas as […]

GOOD write up and nice read Jessica.

I don't think our current scouting / coaching staff will be able to duplicate the greatest draft ever. What do hope for is a solid draft that lands 1 immediate starter and 2 potential (less than 1 1/2 season) type starters. Limited on our number of picks this becomes even a more important to succeed in the draft. Combine that with limited cap space and as you see, the pressure is on.

i guess they should have met more than a handful at the combine when they had the chance

They are in the same boat as every other team and Colbert pretty much said there is no excuses they have game film.

I am not concerned it will be business as usual.

Does that include the Pats...... is anyone doing surveillance for secret workouts, meetings and take-out dinner meetings with the families??:distrust::distrust:

some teams have interviewed a lot more players than the steelrs have.
a few team interviewed less.
they arent in the same boat in that regard
thats is easy to understand

I'm just curious if it easy to understand would it be as easy to overstand. What about those of us who are outstanding in a field, is it as difficult or easier to do that? Then you bring boats into it, does a KAYAK equate to a boat and which one is better out in the field?

Going forward ..... meaning the past is irrelevant....... these are the rules each team has to abide by in contacting potential draft prospects ......

In lieu of traditional meetings with players, NFL clubs are using video conferences to get to know potential draftees. These "visits" are used by coaches and front offices to get to know a player, test their knowledge of schemes, etc. While some substance is lost by not having in-person visits -- most notably the inability to do medical tests -- video meetings at least provide teams and players a chance to speak.

Each call between clubs and prospects can last no more than an hour, per the league. Teams can schedule no more than three telephone or video conferences with an individual draft-eligible player per week. And any telephone or video conference must be reported to the Player Personnel department upon completion, along with the call participants, date and time of the call, and total length of the call.

It hopes to level the playing field for all teams....... but much like anything some teams will do whatever they can get away with to gain an advantage

Yeah as online is the way to go. Until this virus goes away. Just hope they can get to know the player as that and as a person.

Deep Drink

contemplate this

Symbolism: A kayak represents balancing, emotions, lack of ambitions, ambitions and goals in life.

So I say it is a boat with a hole in it figuratively and literally.
Whatever floats your boat.......is easily understandable :trolls: there seems to be a breeding ground on the board lately

lol..............yup.
14 guys interviewed but in all the years past it was 75+
so why did they interview all those other guys before?
i'll wait
I think you are trying too hard to troll, bring it down a level.

I don't often agree with Mel Kiper but I do on this one. The Draft should go on. All the hoopla and hype and the audiences and "green room" and everything else is just extraneous BS. The scouts and coaches have been watching these guys all year (some for several years). We have few things in sports to look forward to and to take our mind off Covid 19 and all its affects. The NFL Draft is one thing that can go on as scheduled. Just do it! Usually me and my buds get together at the bar and watch the first round. Not happening this year for OBVIOUS reasons but I'll for sure be tuning in for days 2 and 3.

Easy to keep the players safe as well. No camera crews. Only phone interviews once they've been drafted. No more of this see them on the phone getting a call from a team while being interviewed bullshit. They can have family members video the call and send it in to the studio for a visual reaction. Quite simple.

Or easier yet, post it to Twitter or IG and the studios can just run it from there!

Agreed .... draft did not need all the hoopla to actually run years ago.....

Pete Rozelle ....puffing on a cigarette announcing picks

Get Roger Goodell ..... puffing on medical marjuana if you want to show how times have changed

really easy to overthink this since we are used to the draft being such a big social event for fans. But for the teams - other than the medical i don't think they really miss much. They can still do video calls and whiteboarding plays/schemes is still very possible remote. Just have to think ahead and set it up. Sure, you miss a little bit of proday work, but i think they like that more for the social interaction than physical results. Just see how the player responds to being asked to do things - are they enthusiastic, do they adapt/learn if the test is changed, etc. But now everyone is in that boat so it is what it is.

Having the draft go on has benefits as well - once drafted, contracts can be negotiated, playbooks shared, diets/workout plans can go out, conf. calls....it isn't OTA's, but there are still things teams can do with the rooks - just a little creative thinking needed is all.

Pittsburgh Steelers Highlight List of 25 Best Team Draft Classes in NFL History
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1177331-the-25-best-team-draft-classes-in-nfl-history

If a team hits a home run on a draft, then chances are that they're going to win for quite a few years following that draft—just look at how well the entire Pittsburgh Steelers organization has drafted.

In that spirit, let's take a look at the 25 best team draft classes in NFL history.

No. 22: 1987 Pittsburgh Steelers
Notable players from draft class: Rod Woodson, Hardy Nickerson and Greg Lloyd.

The Pittsburgh Steelers built up their defense in a huge way in the 1987 NFL draft as they drafted two of the best cornerbacks in that year's class in Rod Woodson and Hardy Nickerson, as well one one of the top linebackers in Greg Lloyd
.

Hardy Nickerson was a LB dummy!

No. 13: 1971 Pittsburgh Steelers
Notable players from draft class: Jack Ham, Frank Lewis, Steve Davis, Larry Brown, Dwight White, Mike Wagner and Gerry Mullins.

The Pittsburgh Steelers saw some pretty solid production out of this draft class, but more specifically, out of Jack Ham.

Ham went on to be one of the greatest linebackers to ever play the game as he was one of the faces of the Steel Curtain defense and ultimately was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

No. 11: 1970 Pittsburgh Steelers

Notable players from draft class: Terry Bradshaw, Mel Blount, Ron Shanklin, Ed George and Jon Staggers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers round up the leader of their offense with this draft class in Terry Bradshaw, as he went on to win four Super Bowls, as well as one of the greatest defenders in NFL history, Mel Blount.

No. 1: 1974 Pittsburgh Steelers

Notable players from draft class: Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert, John Stallworth and Mike Webster.

Hands down, this is the greatest draft class in NFL history.

The Pittsburgh Steelers built their 1970s dynasty around this class with the likes of Swann, Lambert, Stallworth, and Webster who would all be later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
