The defensive ends in a tampa two defense do not have the same responsibilities as a 3-4 OLB our defense. Unless lovie is playing something I'm else then I'm wrong
He still drops in coverage at times, and the point is that he was doing fine as a 3/4 here... he was beaten out by chickallo for the last spot because tomlin doesn't have the balls to cut JJ... who makes more money, is below average for a starting OLB, and can be easily replaced... what are his strong points? not pass defense, he is ok there but that took him some time and he cant cover anyone with speed, so it limits the scheme... not pass rushing... he has 5 sacks in 3 years... for a 3/4 olb that is absurdly bad... against the run... yes he has gotten good at that, but run stopping OLBs are a dime a dozen, and HoJo has natural pass rushing talent, which is at a premium in this league.... The end result was HOJo was as raw as Jarvis coming in to the NFL, but Jarvis was force fed a role based on his draft position and HoJo never even saw the field the first year... we tried to sneak him onto the practice squad because we couldn't cut bait with Jarvis and now we lost him to Tampa.
Lets put this out right now... I hate when people judge a guy on one or two years of football, but 3 years into a career you mostly know what you have... and as a top 20 pick, Jarvis is officially a bad pick, because unless he develops into a HOF player, and he doesn't have the playmaking ability to do that IMO... he is not worh a top half of the draft pick because he didn't significantly contribute in his first few years.... a developmental player with higher upside would have been a better choice for what we have gotten from him... he was a bad pick, and unfortunately a very average player.... and we haven't shown the ability to walk away from guys who are overpaid and overplayed in this coach's tenure...
