Jones or Jones? Jarvis or Howard

The defensive ends in a tampa two defense do not have the same responsibilities as a 3-4 OLB our defense. Unless lovie is playing something I'm else then I'm wrong

He still drops in coverage at times, and the point is that he was doing fine as a 3/4 here... he was beaten out by chickallo for the last spot because tomlin doesn't have the balls to cut JJ... who makes more money, is below average for a starting OLB, and can be easily replaced... what are his strong points? not pass defense, he is ok there but that took him some time and he cant cover anyone with speed, so it limits the scheme... not pass rushing... he has 5 sacks in 3 years... for a 3/4 olb that is absurdly bad... against the run... yes he has gotten good at that, but run stopping OLBs are a dime a dozen, and HoJo has natural pass rushing talent, which is at a premium in this league.... The end result was HOJo was as raw as Jarvis coming in to the NFL, but Jarvis was force fed a role based on his draft position and HoJo never even saw the field the first year... we tried to sneak him onto the practice squad because we couldn't cut bait with Jarvis and now we lost him to Tampa.

Lets put this out right now... I hate when people judge a guy on one or two years of football, but 3 years into a career you mostly know what you have... and as a top 20 pick, Jarvis is officially a bad pick, because unless he develops into a HOF player, and he doesn't have the playmaking ability to do that IMO... he is not worh a top half of the draft pick because he didn't significantly contribute in his first few years.... a developmental player with higher upside would have been a better choice for what we have gotten from him... he was a bad pick, and unfortunately a very average player.... and we haven't shown the ability to walk away from guys who are overpaid and overplayed in this coach's tenure...

Coach has been "underwhelming" lately - we only get 94 threads a week during his slow weeks...

You could say I'm beating a dead horse but Tomlin is alive and well as the chief decision maker.

Um we play Jarvis a lot like a 4-3 end. Amazing as it might sound Howard could have been our best pass rusher this season. Just look what he did with a limited snap count.

Tomlin cut a talent and at other positions starts the wrong man ( Blake )

Jones drops into coverage more than any outside linebacker on the roster.

There's always love for prospects that got away or sit on the bench when a starter isn't playing up to snuff, BUT

to say Chikillo beat out Jarvis (suggested earlier in thread) is as ridiculous as many of Tomlin's decisions

to pine for HJ who is having some success in complete different role when he struggled vs backups here, well he was never used properly he'd look great in black and gold comes to mind. If we're pining for lost goods what about Mauro from last year?

Yeah, JJ's stats look like what you'd expect( or a little lower) for a guy that plays 45% of the snaps and is frequently dropping into coverage. I see improvement in his over all play and you can expect him back next year. If he was a 3rd or 4th rounder he's a decent find for us, it's not his fault we Tomberted it up and raced to the podium to grab him so early. Better pick than Alonzo Jackson or Bruce Davis even when you factor in pick#

Every olb we've had dropped into pass coverage often. You guys are overstating that. Jones just sucks bottom line. For years lloyd would be moved to MLB for passing downs and he still made impact plays

Sorry he's not a decent pick in any round. He's one of the lowest producing olbs in the league those are he facts.
