Watching some YouTube and started watching Joe Ostman from Central Michigan university and really like what I saw. Skip to 1:20 as it’s just fluff before.
First play is vs Ball St. and he sets 77 up with faking inside then using hand placement to swim past him and sacking the QB. What I like here is he went into this snap with a plan and executed. He showed his burst and natural bend and hand placement.
Second play is vs Kansas and a draw play to the running back. Ostman uses a swim move to fly past the lineman while keeping his eyes on the ball allowing him to immediately go after the ball carrier. Again, he went into this snap with a plan and executed. The snap showed burst, hip flexibility, and advanced hand placement.
The third snap he is unblocked intentionally as it’s an option. Ostman keeps his eyes focused and stays in position. Once the QB commits to keeping the ball Ostman shows lateral quickness keeping the proper angle and forcing the QB to attempt a spin move which Ostman easily wraps him up for a loss.
Forth play Ostman vs Ball St. and again uses a quick inside dip to gain the edge forcing the QB to scramble and either a short loss or maybe back to the LOS.
5th play looks to be a run to the opposite side of the field. But Ostman sees the wr coming back on an end round so he holds his ground and sure enough the wr gets the ball on the reverse. Again Ostman forces the receiver wide showing great lateral quickness and allowing teammates to get back in position. He makes an ankle tackle dropping the receiver for a short loss.
Now these are highlights but from what I saw is Ostman is smart, has some athletic ability, and is a high motor guy. He’s rated as a priority UDFA but as we have two 7th round picks I feel he’d be a steal with one of them. I would not want to cross my fingers he decides to sign with us vs another team.
