HOUSTON -- Texans defensive end J.J. Watt reinjured his back and is expected to be placed on injured reserve Wednesday, sources confirmed to ESPN.

"It doesn't look good," a Texans source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The news was first reported by NFL.com.

If Watt is placed on IR, he can return to practice after six weeks and to game action after eight weeks, meaning he could be back Nov. 27 against the San Diego Chargers. However, sources told ESPN's Ed Werder that Watt "probably" is done for the season and that the Texans felt he was never right after offseason surgery.

that could be a career ender unfortunately

What makes it worse is that Clowney has been injured and when healthy, he's been nothing special. He has 5 sacks in 20 games and that's with JJ Watt commanding all the attention.

Unfortunate, Watt was dominating. He should hang them up while he can still walk

Ando Clowney was universally considered can't miss

Football is such a brutal sport. Given his position, factor in squatting crazed amounts of weight during training. Just a lot of stress on his spine. Hang 'em up JJ. One of my fave players and brought intensity and passion to his team. Leave the game intact

I wonder if he over trains? He's known as THE workout warrior like 24/7. Maybe the body isn't meant for the constant physical grind of training that way.

Same thing happening with Tiger Woods (among other issues).

Guy was known for his 'Navy Seal' workout plans and violent swing. All of which contributed to his back problems.

And those who have back problems will be the first to tell you that it is VERY difficult to remedy.

Watt hinted he might not be playing for a long time prior to this injury. I doubt he'll retire in 2016, but he might after 2017 or 2018.

Back injuries are no joke. I have a herniated disk and a torn disk. Been working with doctors trying to heel up.

Hardluck for Houston I guess.

he didnt look as intense and active as normal last Thursday.
back injuries are nothing to **** with. you'd be surprised how many muscles in your back you use doing the simplest of ****. even taking a **** and wiping your ***.

A lot is in squatting. Especially these guys going above 400lbs. I remember reading Watt squats like 600lbs. You can tell he's a workout fiend. Just a point ya gotta learn to recover. He's a DE too so he's in the trenches. He's beat up

Watt has been carrying the Texans on his back for years.
