Two sources (Jason LaCanfora, Yahoo Sports) claiming it. They say that like Willis he's undergone some religious thing and is stepping away.

Good Lord!

"I appreciate all of the interest from the organizations that have reached out to us the past few days. With that being said, after much thought & consideration I have chosen to step away from football as I have opted to pursue other interests. I am especially grateful of the opportunity to play before some of the greatest fans in football today.Despite any concern and speculation that may ensue, I appreciate those that are respectful of my decision." via Jason Bernstein https://twitter.com/JB_XAM

Maybe him and Mendenhall can open a dance studio. But seriously if he is actually walking away from all that money. Good on him. Explains what seemed like a lack of consistency. Maybe his heart wasn't really in it. Strange.

Huh wow... No one saw this one coming

How strange all the retirements today by guys who could still be productive on an NFL roster. Locker might be questionable though...

You have to wonder if the media hysteria over concussions is playing into some of these decisions.

Literally leaving millions on the table....hope he knows that the hell he's doing. Has a winning lottery ticket sitting there just waiting to be cashed.

That leaves just two from the '10 class, Pouncey and AB. What a weird day.

Good luck to Jason in whatever he decides to do in the future.

Time to speed dial James Harrison.

Saying he left 7/8mil a year on the table.

if he was even offered that

but getting that bulk money last year I am sure helped push along his faith

I think it is silly to leave the game early, when you only get so much of a chance to earn that type of money

he will need to hope he can stretch what he has

as I know football players tend to overspend

maybe he will be the exception..

good luck Jason as you move forward, I wish you the best........

Well...there goes our top pass rusher. Its time we elevated the search for a new pass rushing LB/DE

Blindsided by this....totally unexpected.

No team wanted to pay him what he thought he was worth, and he took his ball and went home.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I heard TSA is passing flyers out to keep on the look out for him. He plans to fly to Syria and join ISIS.....Not the evil terrorist group, but the one with Sterling Archer.

Ha...what a weird *** 24 hours in the NFL.

Funny how his announcement came after the first day of free agency. Maybe he is disappointed in the results, and this is how he reacts.

From the man himself:

@WorildsGreatest: @JasonLaCanfora "A spiritual awakening".. Really?..

@WorildsGreatest: I appreciate all of the interest from the organizations that have reached out to us the past few days.

@WorildsGreatest: With that being said, after much thought & consideration I have chosen to step away from football as I have opted to pursue other interests.

@WorildsGreatest: I am especially grateful of the opportunity to play before some of the greatest fans in football today.

@WorildsGreatest: Despite any concern and speculation that may ensue, I appreciate those that are respectful of my decision.

He got $9.7 MIL last year. Clearly doesn't have a passion for the game. Good for him. Give me a $9.7 MIL paycheck and I'm done at my job too. I don't mind it, but give me that check and I'm doing something else.

I would like to thank Miken Tombert for giving me 9+ million last year..I'm sure I could have found it in my heart to play another year if they had slapped me with the franchise/transition tag...but with these offers I'm moving on.

2 high round draft picks who were paid millions then walk away from the game at a young age because they no longer have a desire to play.

The past couple of months James Harrison has posted photos on facebook, daily, of himself working out, lifting weights, busting his ***, at the Steelers facility.

He did that for a reason.

We need better, stronger, and more dedicated football players.

We need to improve our talent evaluation process. We need players with talent and the drive to improve.

Where are you at Jarvis? Is football a part time job for you? Will you be next to retire young after pocketing millions?

A 37 year old All Pro/ DPOY is sending you a "strong" message

Another All Pro on what it takes to succeed.

I did not want Worilds back, but I am disgusted beyond belief at the lack of heart some of our recent high round draft picks have exhibited.

It is no wonder why we have not won a playoff game in 4 years.

and I don't blame the player, I blame management.

The comments about him not getting what he expected are just stupid, he was going to get paid millions no matter what. He obviously decided he wanted to do something else with his life. Good luck to him.

Obviously, his passion for football is not there. Maybe this is the lack of commitment and desire that Troy has mentioned regarding the younger guys. He has money, more than he ever had, so he should be set for awhile. Good luck Jason! Got to do what you are passionate about with your life.
