Steelers haven't really been challenged with many strong running games this year. Carolina comes in as the #2 run offense.

McCaffery catches a lot of passes out of the backfield. He's lightning quick too. Tough to defend.

I think we will handle their conventional running game well but Newton will gash us with his running ability.

If they can run the offense like they did last week, that will be one of the best defenses they can put together. Keep the Panthers offense off the field and playing from behind if they can.

On a few plays with Jackson, Watt let the RB go right by him and keyed only on Jackson. Seemed designed that he goes after Jackson, no matter what and let his teammates worry about the RB. They may do the same thing with Cam.

I saw that too!!! If everyone 'does their job' - we can minimize the big runs. I'll add this - if we rattle dat ol' Auburn QB and sack him 3-5 times - he'll fold like the War Pigeon he is...

Something that the Steeler defense did this week that has a substantial impact on the game is that they didn't give up any "give back" points. That is, the Steeler offense took 8 minutes off the clock and scored a TD. The defense on the very next drive did not give up points which then allows the offense to get back on the field to increase the lead rather than to re-establish the lead. Many steeler defenses in the past, even some of the good ones, would give up a lot of "give back" points which put pressure squarely back on the offense. It's much easier to play offense with the lead than without.

I may be one of a few, but I don’t see Carolina as the juggernaut the talking heads would have you believe. Sure, they’ve blown out the last two teams they’ve played (a Baltimore team in a tailspin a week after losing an emotional game vs. the saints; and a huge win vs a really, really bad bucs team that has zero identity), but they still look like fools gold to me. Get Tuitt and Heyward to hit, and land on top of Newton just a couple times, and he’s going to be short-arming balls all over the damn field. Their offense is McCaffery, and without a Ryan Shazier out there to match him athletically, that’s going to prove difficult to slow down. However, we just need to keep doing what we’re doing. I’m not a fan that this one is on a short week, but Carolina is the team having to travel here. Let’s get out there, punch these mothers in the mouth, and take the next ten days to really gear up for the stretch run.
