The Daily News' Manish Mehta reports Steelers GM Kevin Colbert proposed that teams should be awarded three extra draft picks to offset any coronavirus restrictions.
Shoot your shot. The league's lack of available private workouts and visits to team facilities have obviously thrown some organizations for a loop, forcing much displeasure behind closed doors. While Colbert's suggestion that a 10-round draft would widen any margin for error isn't exactly false, it emphasizes some front office's prehistoric thought processes and pre-draft preparation when forced to evaluate outside the box. April's draft — a "fully virtual" experience — will undoubtedly result in multiple late-round and undrafted players being impacted by the entire process.

Is our front office not ready for this virtual draft....or were they trying to sneak in a few extra picks because they felt others might not be ready?

It has to be tough to judge character via zoom or Skype. I get what he’s saying and for us it would be awesome considering how few picks we have. But the players who get to choose their best options after the draft are going to get the short end of the stick.

I like it. Why not do it since no interviews and very little upfront things were able to be done. Interviews and meetings are usually pretty important to the Steelers.

One other question....how many hackers do the cheats have set up to hack into the other teams draft room?

This was my first thought as well. Not even considering hackers, you know they're looking to exploit every and any advantage they can. I would seriously have a major security concern if I was a GM or Coach.

Reality check. They may get a player in round two or three. After that it's pretty much a fluke anyhow. I was dead against what they paid for Fitzpatrick but that trade looks extremely good now.

it is prudent thinking...there may be people who get drafted who may not wan to be in a locker room or may get sick in relationship to c19. Remmeber the Steegles? rosters could be depleted due to global events. this is typical executive type thinking

I really don't understand this assessment of Colbert's suggestion. They make it sound like every draft writer/analyst is far superior than NFL front offices.

In a way I get what Colbert was saying, but is that any advantage over UDFAs? I suppose if one team spoke with a potential undrafted player and the Steelers didn't maybe they think they'd have a better chance to land that player.

Pity the team drafting right in front of them.

The biggest thing about hacking is being able to cover your trail, NOT letting the hacked know who hacked them. If the CHEATRIOTS are going to hack one team then they are going to hack most teams, regardless of draft position. There is NOT much that can't be hacked especialy when the CHEATERS have a whole division devoted to it, they call it their team video & player promotional staff.

When the commissioner of football turns a blind eye for as long as this current one has, it's a given that the CHEATRIOTS will be attempting anything cyber to get an advantage.

It's a sign that we are missing one pick this draft. Freaking vannett...

I like it. I guess it is the draftnik in me for however silly it may sound/be.. I know I can double check UDFA's but something I like about when they select that particular player and I can focus in on them, until the next pick. With less picks it helps make up for the missing selections too.

As far as advantages I dunno perhaps not much.

I don't have a problem either way, I just didn't get the "prehistoric" comment.

Oh that. Yeah the writer was reaching our system/methods/way of thinking/approach isn't outdated. He sounds like he was just trying to sound smart

trying.

Colbert can think outside of the box just fine. If any GM can he can...........

I thought the numbers of rounds in the draft was determined by the CBA, so adding three rounds would be a violation?

When free agency hit the NFL is when it went from 12 rounds down to 8 (I think) before it went to 7.

Not me, at the time of the trade I felt he was worth a top 10 pick. The fact that we got him for what we did, I feel it was as good as the Theft of the Bus.
