Even though he was taken in the third round, Steelers QB Mason Rudolph was not going to avoid the hype train that he was conducting. Many fans see him as the future of the organization, barring striking resemblance physically to their current QB Ben Roethlisberger.*While his highlight reel and physical traits were a bright promise […]

He gets what? Maybe 3-6 throws a practice with the 4th team squad. He's playing with scrubs. Washington is the only viable talent playing with him, the rest won't be on the roster.

I'd like to see him run with the 2nd team in preseason, and I'm sure we'll see it for at least one game.

I can't wait to see what he does in the preseason. Hopefully, he gets his share of playing time.

Oklahoma State alum here, watched every snap he took in college, and am cheering for him hard, he is a great person.

In college every game or so Rudolph would have a quarter or so where he was very innacurate, so this doesn't sound surprising unfortunately.

He also could thread the needle on throws and be very accurate at times too.

Not sure of this is correctable or not...his footwork under pressure was often criticized...

Yeah not concerned playing with the scout team, and being a rookie. Way too early in the process. The fact that he is getting some TDs early will help build the confidence while he irons the rest out. Real interested in what preseason shows.

It’s a huge concern. After three whole practices under his belt he should be pretty much flawless by now. It’s clear he’s not an NFL level QB, drafting Rudolph was a huge mistake. They’ll likely release him next day or two to give Landry & Dobbs more reps.

I guess the mini camp hype of him looking good is over? A non-story. Let the kid get his sea legs. They just put on pads.

Society and INSTANT GRATIFICATION. Glad some here aren't running the show................... Give him a chance to even settle in, figure out which direction the offense is going and take command. Maybe another practice or two, THREE tops.!!!

There were questions about Rudolph's accuracy on underneath throws prior to the draft, so his early struggles in camp are not surprising.

Steelers fans are just way overrating the guy. He was a third round pick for a reason.

Maybe the more concern than three days in NFL for Mason is the Steelers defense where we seem to be hunting for more players than we have.

Yep, most definitely have to cut him immediately. If he hasn't shown anything by now at the pro level, then he obviously isn't capable. He has been given far too much time to develop already. I mean, come on, you have to know when to cut your losses. You certainly can't let a guy hang around for an entire week or two, still trying to learn something. Get somebody else in there who can actually pick up on this stuff!

By all accounts, rookie quarterback Mason Rudolph had a much better day. In today’s session, he accounted for a touchdown throw to Juju Smith-Schuster in ‘seven shots’, a connection with his favorite target James Washington and Damoun*Patterson during team drills. What was noted by analyst and GZSports founder Zach Metkler, was Rudolph’s improvement in analyzing the field and decision-making skills; a likely indication that the pace is slowing down for him

Wow love how people can make calls like this already. AB was drafted in what round? Marcia Brady what round was she drafted?

If he has footwork issues, he has the time and the people to get it fixed now. Footwork is huge at that position.
Obviously trying to consider his development is ridiculous at this point. I will say this, what happens if Dobbs looks good in preseason. Jones is the three game place holder. His spot is safe. What happens if Dobbs looks significantly better than Rudolph (which you would expect he should). Then what?

I'm not there to comment, but I'll throw out a theory. Most college offenses are not pro style, and there is an adjustment under center that rookie Qb’s must become comfortable with. These 3 and 7 step drops under center can throw off a rookie's timing until they get comfortable with it, not to mention the speed of the NFL game takes some time to get used to.

I doubt Dobbs out plays Rudolph in the pre-season games, but if's he's marginally better, perhaps the Steelers can trade Landry Jones, or Josh Dobbs for something. Both Ben and Rudolph ( unless he's beyond terrible in camp ) are locks to make the team.

One interesting thing we can do with our roster this season:

Jaylen Samuels is position flexible. If's he's the 3rd RB and 2nd slot WR, Steelers only need 5 WRs, and can keep 4 QBs.

That might work. At least for a while when injuries happen. I think the most likely scenario is this. Even if Dobbs looks marginally better than Rudolph in the pre season would he look good enough to get plucked on someone else's active. He plays out the year on the PS and Jones is allowed to explore FA next season.
