A bad game or simply declining to where it is more noticeable?

Now I am not hating on Timmons or suggesting he should be benched. But for me it is clear his coverage skills are pointing downwards.I see his missed tackles and more often is a step slow in coverage.

Perhaps put Fort in on obvious passing downs. Or take him off and put in Burns. I think the D plan is to have more coverage units on the field if the first game was a indication of what we'll see moving forward....

Many have talked about how this could be Lawrence's last year. With no contract extension and a high cap number for perhaps what he brings to the table now.

I think Shazier is their obvious coverage LBer. And JJ to a certain degree.

But is that enough? Should the D continue to be tweaked starting with Timmon's percentage of snaps ?

Shazier should never leave the field now. Timmons time for being the all around LB is over. This is his last year as our starter, and he will still be productive for us. I just expect to see him on 1st and 2nd down and not on 3rd down at this point in his career.

Oh yeah, sit one of our best LB's for some scrub - how about fire the defensive coordinator that has him continually covering a WR in that 'rush three' zone defense.

Time to mix it up Jones I have no faith he will a threat to beat the OT via speed so he will have to rely on a bull rush or coverage sacks. LT has lost a step and I hope Feeney can make the team next year as he almost as fast as #50 speed, just needs polishing, quite possible if they want to upgrade more on the CB position and get successor to ben and another Te OLB is moved asa less priority
. let JJ walk and let Chickello @ Feeney compete at SLB, nickel Shazier Fenney in the middle or Fort.
I wanna see a 4 man rush of LE Cam NT Mcullers 3T Tuitt RE Matthews

The other mention besides Fort was Burns, and I take it he is no scrub.

Fire the D coordinator hmmmmmmmmmm what are we the Bills now?

But Dan isn't even the starting NT......

TImmons should be a run stuffer or a pass rusher, making him continually drop back in coverage is exposing his weakness, especially against a quick WR, at least make him follow the TE or RB if he has to cover

They are both scrubs, by definition

2nd/3rd string bench warmers

and yes - defensive coordinators can be replaced, but with the weak secondary I guess he has no magic fixes for us this year, unless we drop a LB for another S

I predict you will see the 10 yd cushion make it's comeback this week

that is a reasonable prediction

I will have to give Butler kudos for mixing it up game 1.

The magic fix might be the return of a few players later in the year.

Sure it won't magically transform a D, but Dupree's return mixed in with Burns improving and possibly Gilbert improving under the scheme isn't out of the realm of a possibility.

Perhaps to the point they are well limiting points.

Dupree showed decent coverage ability as a rookie, it can be expected a lot of improvement there. He could literally become a complete OLB, explosive pass rusher, a good run stopper (his best treat out of college) and good in pass coverage. Maybe a stronger Joey Porter? yes, I know, he's still far away from peezy, but the talent is there

The tackling nowadays sucks fermented pig ***. The very fundamentals learned in peewee football are just gone. I swear everyone is afraid to get a boo boo or hurt. The arm tackling I see is just unnerving to watch at the pro level....come on man

Any time they attempt to play the genius defensive scheme of having a LB try to cover a WR, they are asking for whatever they get. It's plain stupid. You could put Lawrence Taylor or Mike Singletary out there in their prime and ask them to routinely cover WR's, they are gonna get beat....alot. LB's should be covering RB's and TE"s who run slower than 4.4 40's.

and yet his push up the middle was the cause of Deebo's Interception.. Pushed 3 guys back and swatted the pass.

I'd like to see a 4 man front with Heyward, Hargrave, McCullers and Tuitt. Then Harrison, Shazier and Timmons, I think it would be very good to put pressure up front

I think it was a mistake by Sean Davis that went deep on a seam instead of switching the offensive player to the covering safety and protecting the flat. Timmons looked exposed but it wasn't his responsability to cover the flat. Same play happened early in the other side of the field in that first overpursuit and whiff by Timmons near the sideline.

Saw it in a steelersdepot filmroom on Sean Davis, hopefully the rookie will learn from these mistakes and switch and cover the flat on those cover 2 looks

Scrub? Come on Spike! Enter Vince Williams. You got Shazier in coverage. Williams against the run. Timmons is losing a step. It looked noticeable on monday night

Harrison and Shazier can play coverage pretty well. I'd plug in more Williams against the run. And on 3rd and long situations go with Timmons

Timmons still is as good or better than Vince against the run

Timmons is our starter, one game does not make a season - stop whining, put down your Madden GM glasses.

Oh right, every guy on the bench is an all-pro waiting to happen...where have I heard that before.

Timmons looks slower than he used to. He can not cover like he used to from what I saw last game. Now he may not have lost a step but he might have been dinged up a bit or slightly tweaked an ankle. Could be a minor injury has slowed him just a bit. It is also possible that he has hit the age that he begins to slow down and lose a bit of his athletic ability. He may become a situational player in the future and have his contract redone or become a cap casualty. His being exposed in the secondary may change as some of the young guys get better and we may get some guys back that could allow him to play in a different role.

The guy has played for years and on occasion taken himself outa plays in the past by taking wrong angles etc. He may have had too much assigned to him in the first game and just not physically capable of doing it. The plan will likely be adjusted for this week. Lets hope the coaches have a good plan ready for the bungles. It would be nice to be 2 and 0 instead of wondering when we will win our first game. Hopefully we will have Bud and Golson ready to play and contribute during the second half and burns can get better each week.

Agreed Davis has assignment issues. They should get better in in time, but the tackling must improve.
