Is Byron Jones Really in Play for 1.22?

On Jones... The combination of reading his measurables, watching tape and then seeing this young man speak, I like him a lot. He's been compared to Prince Amukamara, but is probably a greater physical specimen, with off the chart measurables. He is raw at CB, having started college as a safety, which leads me to believe he has great potential up-side, but is still not too raw and, to me, importantly, he speaks and articulates himself intelligently and with a type of respectfulness. I know that's not everything, but when a serious consideration is the exact opposite in Peters, I go with the combo of talent and character. Not to mention, coach Lake involved in getting his positional skills up to level with his physical abilities could yield incredible results. Or we could go with Peters and see him playing for another team after his rookie contract, cause he's a disruptive force, bringing more negative than positive?

IMO, there is only one Cb in this draft who could be a day 1 starter, and that is Peters. Not saying we would be looking for a day1 starter because we rarely do BUT recent drafts and Fa turnover have put us in position of possibly needing a starter too. I like Jones just fine. He will need the requisite year or 2 before becoming an outside guy IMO. Whether we can carry on in the mean time is the question.

I've heard his college tape shows him to be a pretty good player. The fact that he tested well makes up for his playing at a lower level. I don't dislike the pick. I've also heard we might take Eric Rowe in the first round, which seems to be even more of a reach.

That would be a HUGE reach IMO. Where did you hear that?

Trying to find it. I frequently read both paper's sites, BTSC, Steelers depot and steelers.com. It was on one of those sites. I'll try to find it and post a link.

I don't hate Byron Jones but I think it would be a bit of a reach especially if guys like Randy Gregory, Marcus Peters & Malcolm Brown are still available and all three might be there when the Steelers pick. I know one thing....we need a guy who can come in and start right away for our 1st Rounder.

Anyways i think it was one of the beat writers, i cant seem to find the original story. Guy quoted his "sources" close to the team as saying Rowe was their man. Here are some from steelers depot mentioning Rowe as our possible pick:

I love Eric Rowe as a corner for us in the 2nd or 3rd round. Crazier things have happened, but it takes a vivid imagination to think he'd be the best prospect on the board at #22.
