At this point I would say yes, he is. No rookie entered the game under greater pressure. Boswell not only bailed the Steelers out, he been a factor in games.

17-18 on field goals, 94.4% accuracy with a long of 51 yards.

4-5 from 40-49 yards, and 1-1 from beyond 50 yards.

This is amazing accuracy that was not built upon short chip shots. Boswell has a big leg, and has been decent on kickoffs.

It would be difficult to not to vote for him at this point of the season, I suppose you could make a case for Dupree as well. I'd opt for Boswell, he's made a difference for the Steelers.

Boswell or Bud. If Bud gets a couple more sacks, my guess is it will be him.

I would think a rookie stepping in at Left Tackle was much more important than a field goal kicker.

Lotsa good points...

I'm leaning to the Boz vs. Buddy race - still a ways to go.

Big Al isn't a rookie, 21Steelers21...

Like said, "BUD" just needs a couple three more splash plays, he's in. Bos is currently ROY for STEELERS.

I don't know the NFL rules, but never having been on an active NFL roster should qualify as a rookie.
Being on the practice squad shouldn't count as a year of NFL experience.

If Villanueva isn't a rookie, neither is Boswell. He was on Texans practice squad in 2014.

Bud Dupree.

As stated, Bos is not a rookie. Undrafted in 2014 & with his 3rd team.

You are correct. So the question shifts.

Is the Joe Greene Great Performance Award — Steeler Rookie of the Year for drafted players only, or does it include 1st-year players who did not play an NFL snap now on the Steelers?

However you want to define a rookie is good, Villanueva, Boswell and Dupree should get consideration regardless of how they are "officially" classified. Of those three, I'd have to go with Villanueva, he stepped into the most important position other than QB and has been very, very good. Originally, I had believed he was on several rosters. He's a "rookie" not by definition, but by experience IMO.

I disagree with that. One year of NFL experience makes a difference in terms of preparation and adjusting to the league. There is a reason it is Rookie of the Year and not First-Year Contributor award.

Than can we give Villanueva the First-Year Contributor award? It would probably be a gift card to Applebee, or some place like that, but he deserves it. Mods...let's start a poll. Is Villanueva the First-Year Contributor award winner? Love it!

If we were voting based on that, it is hard to argue against Villanueva. Given his lack of experience at the position, he's played well.

Was gonna ask about Wallace's status as far as years in the league.....holy crap, 7? Can't believe I was thinking 2-3 max....... anyhow, done a GREAT job "filling in" at C.
