We’re back taking another dive into the Pittsburgh Steelers’ draft history in an attempt to have an idea of who the team will be targeting in the 2017 NFL Draft. Today, we’re looking at the Steelers’ biggest need. Outside linebacker. As always, we’ll begin by listing the draft picks and the measurables for every OLB selected under Mike Tomlin.

We’ll search for trends and compare/contrast to this year’s class.

Make sure to have a look-see. I will look a little closer after work today...............

I would not put a ton of stock in that article. For example, here is what he writes and here are the numbers at NFL Draft Scout:
Height: 6’3 6025
Weight: 245 252
Arm Length: 34 1/4
Hand Size: 10 1/8
40 Time: 4.50 4.78
Ten Split: 1.50 1.59
Vertical: 33.5 32" (Pro Day)
Broad: 10’3″ 9'11" (best)
Short Shuttle: 4.03 4.47
Three Cone: 6.70 7.34
Bench: 19

No numbers for Jarvis Jones on the 40/10/shuttle/cone but they were 4.88, 1.66, 4.71, and 7.46.
Dupree was 269, never benched, but his shuttle/cone was 4.48, 7.52.
Woodley has no 40/10/shuttle but they were 4.74, 1.65, 4.42.]
He left Chickillo off completely and the height thing drives me nuts. When they list Woodley at 6014, that is NOT 6'1/4", it is 6'1 1/2". The 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 on the end is in relation to 1/8th of an inch. So, a 1 is 1/8th, a 4 is 4/8th (or 1/2"). If someone is missing details like that in a "statistical evaluation", I have trouble getting on board.

While the pick of Dupree gave the Steelers some redemption, the specter of the Jarvis Jones pick still lingers.

Back in the day the Steelers used to find top level players outside of round one for their pass rushing OLB's.

Gildon, and Porter are the best examples, but after them Vrabel, Worilds, were not bad either. These players were picked in rounds 2 and 3.

Getting Lloyd in round 5 ( or was it 6? ) Picking up Harrison for free, or spending money on a proven star like Kevin Greene were also good moves.

This off set the occasional busts in Alanzo Jackson, and Bruce Davis who were also picked in rounds 2 and 3.

How good will Dupree be? My guess is not as good as Lloyd, Gildon, Porter, Harrison or Greene. To me he's more on the Jason Worilds level.

Simple answer for this we were one of the few teams playing a 3-4. We had our pick of tweeners and we knew could address other positions first because those guys would be there later. It's really quite simple

A Non-Bust for a change

......yeah I didn't know how accurate it was. What I did find interesting how Jarvis among a **** load of prospects, lack of athletic ability stood out.

little too early to put a cap on Dupree's ceiling Coach.

Does his head look too big?

I think Dupree is going to surprise us a little this season, BARing injury. Can't compare him yet to anybody as he has his 3rd season light turns on season this year. Uncle Jarvis got two full light turns on seasons................ Dupree won't need two.

Salute the nation
