Harris isn't great, but he was good enough to start 16 games/ playoffs at Tackle for the World Champions. Whoever comes out of the battle between him and Big Al V. should be decent with the other at least a solid swing tackle depth. Hawkins comes from a University that cranks out talent on the OL. Gilbert is a good RT. I'm feeling pretty good about this position. Hoping Al is a solid to good LT this season. I think he might have a high ceiling considered he played pretty well with little knowledge. technique.

Much to my surprise, Gilbert has turned out to be a very solid RT. My only fear with Al is that those special forces boys often end up with bad backs, from all the crazy **** they go through. I don't think it's likely he will have a very long career, but long enough to get us a ring or two more I hope.

Yea, that is my concern. He checks every other box off, especially having Munch as his positional coach. He is certainly big enough, seems to have enough athletic skills, needs to improve footwork some.

But guys his size jumping out of planes end up with bad backs.

where did yinz read this?

They also have shorter legs from all that landing.

They can't hear from all the wind whoosing through their ears.

There is more to worry about than just backs.

I never meant to imply it was only their backs that end up trashed, but the back is a biggie, as once jacked up, very hard to fix. I hope Al is some kind of genetic freak and none of the special force activities jack him up.

Just saying, bad backs are very common with these guys.

So if he had a bad back do you think he would be playing football? Or are you saying because he jumped out of planes that it has created the chance of him getting a bad back? Again....are you really serious that this is your one concern? He might have a bad back/or get one because he has jumped out of planes. He was signed by Philly and now us and no where did I ever read or hear that his back was ever an issue.

b b b but he knows people

Depends how often you jump out of planes I suppose. Special Forces and Airborne are not the same thing.

Big AL is probably a good for 4 or 5 years at best guy anyway. He isn't 22. But if you can get some good milage out of a guy like him you are playing with house money anyhow. He is a undated no body ever expected anything out of him guy.

It depends. He has a few less years of playing pro ball and that much less wear and tear. Not as many miles for his age compared to most players, kinda like Deebo and DeAngelo.

My brother is ex airborne, retired after 28 years. Bad back and both knees, jumping takes its toll. He is going in next months for his second knee replacement, might have to have a couple vertibrae fused in the near future.
