I don't want Jackson in the first. Even if we sign an ILB and S in free agency, we still need defensive help. I think he'll be decent in the pros, but I don't want to reach for a QB. Now, if he's there in the 2nd round, absolutely pull the trigger.
If they picked him he wouldn't be considered a reach, but a value.
All the QBs and every prospect is some sort of reach. Some higher floors and lower ceilings.
I want a S and a ILBer. But if the value isn't there I don't want them drafting a player over someone more talented.
Fans can have their wants, but the Steelers didn't get good at drafting by reaching in their drafts.
I would like them to take perhaps a little less risk on players who are a little more raw at their position in round 1. But I damn sure don't want them reaching on the Troy Edwards of the NFL.
