But I just heard on the local news that Lebeau came to them to resign and it was a surprise. Now
when Arians left was let go, they said that Arians retired. Maybe Lebeau did quit, maybe he didn't want to be here anymore.
(probably sick of the crap players we were putting on that side of the ball)

yeah or that rumor is nothing more than a fabrication........

hard to tell

my money is on he was forced out.......... but who knows

I just posted this elsewhere, but now there is strong speculation on local TV and radio that he wanted to go out with Troy, Ike, Deebo, and Da Beard.

Makes a lot of sense.... also, it could be that the Ohio paper jumped the gun on the story. They might have had it and agreed to hold the story...then decided against holding hit to get some headlines...wouldn't be beyond the media to do that...

He may have quit because he knew they were going to ask him to "retire". Who knows. As long as our defense is better next year, I will be happy. We need a good defensive draft (all D picks accept for a TE) and a few free agents. They also need to sign McCain. Worilds can walk if he wants $7 million per.

Sometimes we have to get on with our own life's work.

Time moves on and he will always be a part of Steeler lore. Nothing but the best no matter what the different stories say. What wasn't surprising was Tomlin's half *** remarks on Dick.

Im wondering if he knew that Keith Butlers Contract was up and he wasn't going to stand in the way of his progression any more.. Since he's been in place since 2004. But he's not ready to hang up his spurs just yet.

From 2012

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7...sburgh-steelers-nixes-move-indianapolis-colts

League sources had told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Sunday that the Colts planned to make Butler the team's defensive coordinator.

NFL.com reported that Butler agreed to a new contract but didn't specify the terms.

The Post-Gazette reported that Butler had been told after the 2009 season that he would replace Dick LeBeau as the team's defensive coordinator once the 74-year-old LeBeau retires. The newspaper reported that the "handshake agreement" convinced Butler to not become the Miami Dolphins' defensive coordinator that offseason.

LeBeau already has said he will return for the 2012 season.

The Steelers denied Butler the chance to interview for the Arizona Cardinals' defensive coordinator position last season. However, Butler's contract expired after this season, allowing Butler to interview for other jobs without the Steelers blocking any move.

Combination of Butlers contract being up and according to reports of Tomlin becoming more involved in the D this year might have caused LeBeau to want to make a preemptive exit due to writing on the wall, what's best for the team, and not enjoying the micromanagement.

What kinda sports market embraces a 77-yr old ? I know hes legendary, but there comes a point where you lose your effectiveness even mentally. LeBeau loves this **** so much he'd stay around 10 more years if you allowed him. We have to move past this and bring in a different mind.

I really dont care if he quit or was forced out, the move needed to happen....and the sooner, the better. I think we were three years too late

I posted a link in ONE of the threads -- at least I thought I did -- i did share the info on facebook .

In my opinion this is a result based business. Just as I would have called for Tomlin's head if they had won 9 games and missed the playoffs, I have to consider that the Steelers have played sub par defense for the last three years. They have invested picks and it hasn't turned out. Is that all Lebeau's fault. Surely not. I don't know who came up with the passive third down pass defense strategy in the playoffs, but that didn't look good to me either. I hope they hire Butler, and I hope he can bring some swagger back to this defense.

He was forced out. Just like Arians.

Don't let the chicken-**** Pittsburgh sports media shills and sycophants lead us around by the nose.
They "report" whatever the Steelers tell them to report and nothing else, they'll never do their job to find the facts.

If we want some swagger back, we better quit drafting finesse players,

Ian Rapoport reported that LeBeau resigned and that members of the organization were 'surprised' by this.

All of the local Steelers writers have basically said he was forced out.

Believe what you want, but when I want my Steelers news, I don't get it from Ian Rapoport.

Doesn't make sense since he wants to continue to coach. Does he think that his new team is gonna bring in all four?

Good for him and for them. I hope it does work out. And I hope the Cards get a good defense out of it if Lebeau does go there. I don't harbor any bad feelings for him.

It wasn't working out here. That doesn't mean he can't thrive and do well somewhere else. In fact I'd LOVE to see him put together a top 5 defense someplace else. That would be absolutely spectacular.

their DC has to leave first
