Please share everything you've seen from Mason Rudolph in "training camp videos." I'd love to see how he's so much greater than Will Howard, and better understand his special traits.

I could not care less about Mason Rudolph. Allar is making impressive throws every week and his arm stands out in live action. Maybe it's because of Big Ben, but I want a QB with a strong arm.

I guess I must have misconstrued your like of a FFL post in which he says "there is no comparison between Allar or Rudolph to Howard." Then I really got thrown off (and baffled, really) when you not only agreed about Will having only one NFL-level throw in two preseason games, but also stating that you haven't seen evidence of another in all of training camp. Not used to that level of a ridiculous statement coming from you.

ill let him answer,, lol but ,, i think hes a psu fan and grew some disdain of allar. Same for me ,, im not throwing out howard over one preseason game when hes played the same number of games as allar.

Correct. I had a fair amount of disdain for Allar and his results at Penn State. But once the Steelers drafted him, I was left with no other choice but to hope that he can make use of his frame and arm, correct his mechanics, and exorcise whatever demons he had that prevented him from delivering in big games in college.

As a Steelers fan, I am rooting for Allar or Howard to develop. Also as a Steelers fan, I know what Rudolph is. I know what his ceiling is. It's not enough to win in the playoffs. With the young guys, we don't know yet. So I'd prefer the Steelers to trade the career backup, get him the hell out of the way, and allow either Howard or Allar to get valuable regular season experience if/when something happens to Rodgers. That's it.

This is a clear demonstration of throws I would expect a college quarterback to make. His performance aligns with what is expected from a second-year player entering his first significant playing time. There is a mix of good plays and some mistakes, but overall, he shows potential.

Your bias against Rudolph is actually amusing and undermines your credibility.

For reference, Rudolph's preseason stats are 24 completions on 44 attempts for 315 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in 2018. In 2019, he went 28 for 43 for 368 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Before his concussion in 2019, he accumulated 646 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions in the regular season.
In such a limited sample size, comparing early career stages of Howard and Rudolph, it’s difficult to justify favoring Howard over Rudolph. Yet, you continue to try.

And let's bring Allar into this conversation. Who has been more impressive between the two?

I suppose I interpreted "NFL level" differently. Howard's in the NFL, so just about every throw he's making is NFL level. Instead, I'm looking at it as how many high-level NFL throws have these guys made--throws where a QB is creating with his arm. Allar is piling those up by the week...Howard has not. I love Howard's attitude, I think he can be a great leader and he has the desire to get good, but his upside is limited. Again, sign me up to have Howard as our backup QB for the next decade.

However, if I need to pick who McCarthy and the offensive staff should focus on, it would be Allar. I'm going to turn my head at him shrinking in big moments in college in the hopes that this staff can coach that out of him and maximize his tools. Outside of maybe his mobility, Allar is that lab-built QB that you just hope can develop.
