Had they won the AFC CCG and advance to play in...

Super Bowl 29
Super Bowl 32
Super Bowl 36
Super Bowl 39

I think the Steelers lose close to the Packers and Rams, but beat the Eagles.
49ers probably roll over the Steelers like they did the Chargers. That team was just stacked.

Hosting 5 AFC CCGs in Pittsburgh during an 11 year stretch is still pretty remarkable even if it only resulted in 1 SB trip.

Probs lose to rams but beat everyone one else

The game against the Eagles would have been their best chance

I do not think that with Kordell Stewart, the steelers would have been able to beat Brett Favre and Kurt Warner ... In 1994, the 49ers were loaded, they would have given a better fight than the Chargers, but that would not have been enough

No way Sanders comes up and takes o foster. We win that game.

That is the one of the years Sanders was there correct?

I agree the Packers and Rams would've been close with the games going either way and I like the Steelers over the Eagles. I agree the 49ers spank the Steelers, which is why I don't get as upset over that Chargers losses as some people.

I think we would have beat the 49ers. The next year the Panthers beat that same stacked 49ers team twice, using our defensive schemes and with less talent.

Hold on there, not correct. Carolina won the 1st meeting of 1995 13-7 and Steve Young did not play that day. Grbac tossed a couple picks. The 49ers (on the road) later on stomped the Panthers by 3 TDs in the rematch.
San Fran eventually got bounced by the Packers in the playoffs that year. Speaking of which, the 49ers were IMO primed for another bit of a dynasty run, but Green Bay's emergence really derailed them.

Superbowl 29 - wouldve been a far better game than what the Chargers gave the 49ers, but 49ers still wouldve beaten Pittsburgh as well. Steve Young wasnt gonna be denied on that night.

Superbowl 32 - wouldve been close. Either team winning wouldnt have been a surprise.

Superbowl 36 - No way Kordell keeps up with a prime Kurt Warner. Steelers keep it close until the 2nd half then the Rams pull away

Superbowl 39 - Steelers wouldve stomped Philly's ***

1984 vs San Fran - 49ers wouldve stomped the Steelers' ***

2016 vs Atlanta - close game, could go either way

I stand corrected. It was the 96 season that the Panthers beat the 9ers twice. 23-7 at home, 31-24 at San Fran. I still believe we would have beat them.

I have no doubt the Steelers would have matched up better than San Diego and at least made it a 2nd half game of sorts, but the Super Bowl was San Fran vs Dallas that year. We'll never know though and that's the beauty of "what if" as its always up for debate.
I appreciate the discussion.

Steelers wouldn't have defeated 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX

Steelers fans, with training camp still a few days away, decided to ask a question Pittsburgh fans have been wondering for 25 years on Monday. Would the '94 "Blitzburgh" Steelers had defeated Steve Young and the 49ers had in Super Bowl XXIX had Pittsburgh defeated the Chargers in the AFC Championship Game?

As the question continued to be debated into the afternoon, my immediate reaction was no. Pittsburgh, as good as they were that season, weren't stopping Young from his year-long mission of capturing his first championship as a starting NFL quarterback.
