Most of you would admit the 9ers know about QBs. (Now not so much that they knew not to draft Lance to begin with, you got me there.) They did see, in their vision, to draft whatshisname in the 7th round. And they did already jettison Lance the hell out of there, so there is that (some late recognition QB evaluation there.)

Their vision to draft Purdy in the 7th? C’mon now. They just got plain lucky. If they saw that much potential,they would have drafted him in the first or second. The one thing I would give them credit for is recognizing his talent and giving him the opportunity to start. Many teams either cut or practice squad their 7th without really giving them a serious chance to prove themselves.
It’s no different than NE getting lucky with Brady.
