Merril Hoge, former Steelers running back and current ESPN commentator, has taken a leave from his job to have heart surgery.
Hoge, 50 made the announcement Monday on ESPN’s ‘NFL Primetime,’ saying: “I’m taking a little bye week. I’m going to have heart surgery, but I’ll be back in a month, though.”
He appeared to be in excellent spirits, even joking that he’d challenge Ben Roethlisberger to see who would return to duty first: “Let’s see who can be back quicker, me or him, back to the field or back to the studio.”
This is Hoge’s Twitter account if you want to send wishes.
I’ll send my own right here. This is a good, good man, someone I’ve been fortunate enough to know and trust for years. I’ve no doubt he’ll bounce back.
