Harrison has too much love for the game not to honor his 2-year contract. To add, I'm sure he also feels this team is poised to make a better run next year...no way he's going to miss being a part of that. He'll also continue to help with molding the younger guys and to serve as an awesome role model with his second-to-none work ethic.
I still think he's 1.5 or 2 short of the record, unfortunately. I hope he comes back and even if he does I think Jones has turned the corner as an OLBer and will get the lion's share of the snaps. Jones' pass rushing skills will get better and he's pretty good against the run right now. Even dropping into coverage has improved.

Deebo doesn't have Greene's career sack stats, of course he might if the refs ever called holding on him, but he's a better all-around player while Greene was pretty much a one-trick pony.

Greene had a better overall career, but Harrison had a better - and much longer - career as a Steeler.

i don't remember the specifics of the expansion draft but if memory serves each team could protect X number of players, when one got drafted you could then protect another, and Greene was one of the players the Steelers left unprotected and the Panthers took him in the expansion draft. He might have played here a little bit longer but he probably would have left as a FA anyway. Or maybe he was going to be a FA anyway so that's why they let Carolina draft him.
So Carolina ended up with Greene and Lloyd. Pittsburgh South!!
I can't say I was ever high on Greene, I think he was a great pass rusher, but he wasn't the best LB on that team. It was Lloyd. Lloyd did it all. Sack fumbles, blowing up running plays, brutal hits causing fumbles. Lloyd was a big play linebacker and was a pleasure to watch. Harrison is cut from the Lloyd mold. I never thought I'd like another LB as much as I enjoyed watching Lloyd, but Harrison passed him. You return an INT in the Superbowl, and you are a legend. That play alone should put Harrison in contention for a HOF nod. I know he probably won't get in while Godell is the commish, but I do consider him a HOFer.
I hope to enjoy one more season with him. He had the D playing with intensity and heart by the end of the season. What a great leader by example. Looks like it's starting to rub off on JJ and Shazy.

The Modern Era ( 3/4) linebackers...James Farrior, James Harrison, Greg Lloyd, and Joey Porter, probably has Lloyd 1st IMO.
The question was posed to Dick LeBeau some years ago, and so maybe the answer has changed, but it probably has not. When asked which of his former players he would school-yard-pick first around whom to build a defense, LeBeau immediately said: Greg Lloyd. “Greg had a no-nonsense approach,” said LeBeau, “that seemed to permeate the rest of the group.”
On the first play of his first minicamp as a rookie sixth-round pick from Fort Valley State, Lloyd covered a back out of the backfield and intercepted the pass. A three-time All-Pro, Lloyd ranks eighth on the team’s all-time sacks list with 53.5, and he also had 10 interceptions and 34 forced fumbles. Lloyd played in five Pro Bowls and was named team MVP twice.
And I might add that like Cope said...Harrison sort of mimicked that attitude.

Harrison is one of my all-time favorite players...regardless of position. To me, he embodies what it is to be a Pittsburgh Steeler. He's no-nonsense, plays with great passion...AND...he's a brilliant tactician. Because he doesn't have prototypical size (or arm length) for a pass rusher, Harrison uses great technique to get underneath those massive OL and gets leverage. I've always admired that...and his film study, which led to the INT-TD in SB43. He recognized the formation and knew exactly what Warner was going to do.
I don't buy jerseys...Just not my thing, but I've told Mrs. GRB that when we know that he's retired permanently, I want a Harrison jersey. I respect him just that much.
