Harbaugh gets coach of the year.

He went from possible being replaced to number one seed in playoffs. Smart enough to build and offense around his new QB. he does deserve the award

Can’t stand the guy! However, he knew he was on the chopping block and he was called out by fans and media for his coach talk. This was his shot, he actually asked for the opportunity to prove his worth. Biscotti stood behind the coach. John went out and brought in 2 coordinations to run each facet of the game and create game plans around their players. They lost a lot of players on both sides and Harbaugh manages the team while the coordinators coached. Well deserved, best coaching he did was by not coaching. But, doing what he does well..manage the team. Guy is light years ahead of Tomlin, he has learned from his arrogance and mistakes.

John Harbaugh was my choice for quite some time.
He knew he had to make drastic changes to his offense and completely remade that offense while still maintain a strong defense. That’s coaching and a guy who knows how to build a team.

Meh, it was going to a coach from the AFCN either way...who cares - NASCAR will be on next month!!!

Bro.. there is a 0% chance that Tomlin was even 2nd for this when so many other teams had good years. "Scrounging together a 500 season without your QB" is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Especially when you're 8-5 and in the drivers seat for playoff positioning then you completely **** the bed the last 3 weeks of the season. I would argue that should drop Tomlin out of the top 5 for COTY. Probably closer to 10. Don't believe the type. This could have had the making of a special and fun year, but ended up the same as always.

lol oooh boy, this thread should make for some good fireworks.

If people want to see a Coaching change in Pittsburgh and Rooney to "repent"/change his mind about what his eyes are telling him, we need to pull for John Harbaugh to go all the way this year and win the Lombardi:

Get beyond partisan hatred of the Rats. If Hairball runs the table, he goes to 13-6 in the playoffs and enters Joe Gibbs territory with winning multiple SBs with different QBs. He vaults to 6th on the All Time List of NFL Coaches total playoff wins.

Tomlin is 8-7 in the playoffs and 24th on the All Time List of Playoff Wins. He's won 3 playoff games in 9 years vs Alex Smith, AJ McCarron, and Matt Moore.

That might open some eyes. It clearly would elevate Hairball out of swimming in the Tomlin Tank. It would double Tomlin's SB victories and project Hairball as a clearly superior, results-oriented coach over time.

It might make Art restless.

It's the best outcome for this insular, self-satisfied, lose with heroic dignity organization.

They created game plans (schemes) around the talent that they had? What a novel idea. :)

i mean, you certainly might have a point there, but still, i couldn't root for a Ravens Superbowl win. That said, if they DO win it all, I pray the events you just described, play out in exactly that fashion.

Are you ******* kidding me? COTY was already spoken for. Fantasy thinking on several of some here's part. ****

Every reaction and opposite reaction requires a catalyst.

Steeler Nation inoculated itself against the dominance of the Pats and when it comes to Tomlin's inferiority rejected any comparisons to BB because "no other coach is in his league."

Hairball and the Ravens have outflanked the Steelers and Tombert. Watching Hairball ascend to Joe Gibbs level and 6th All Time with a 2nd Lombardi /different QB while Tomlin languishes at 24th on the Playoff list would open eyes.

They do their own awards? I don't know my error if so...

Hairball is a better coach than Shades.

While you certainly make some good points, I cannot bring myself to rooting for the Rats. Ever.

And if Art Rooney hasn't already seen the writing on the wall, we're screwed.

I think this is an opinion piece. I'm not seeing this anywhere else except at PFT

Tomlin wouldn’t have been close, not with Shanahan in SF, Pete Carroll in Seattle, McDermott in Buffalo. No way Shades was ahead of these guys.

Absolutely. If they didn't have that three-game collapse and were actually in the playoffs, it's a different story, yes.

But another year, and here we are again.

You'd think Art could simply check the playoff wins/losses and make an informed decision. It is tough to look at those numbers knowing the amount of talent this team has had over the past decade. Wasted opportunity galore on display every frigging season. This one included...Crap I got my BP back up again....Where's the Tylenol?

Perhaps Rooney knows that the team wins enough for the fans to stay tuned in and buying.

Championships might not be the priority over the almighty dollar.

Unfortunately.

too many fans are satisfied with .500 seasons and 3 HCs in 50 years.
6 super bowls is awesome. 2 in the past 40 years, not so much
gotta quit living in the past
