The Pittsburgh Steelers announced plans Tuesday for a Hall of Honor. According to the team, the Hall "will induct former players, coaches and front office personnel who were integral in creating and sustaining the franchise's success."
"This is probably long overdue," Steelers President Art Rooney II said in a statement, "and we are excited to begin the process of recognizing these individuals and their accomplishments, both on and off the field, during an annual series of ceremonies."
The inaugural class will be announced on Tuesday, Aug. 29 with the formal induction to take place during Alumni Weekend (Nov. 25-26). The class will be introduced during halftime of the Steelers game against the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 26.
Former plays are eligible if they've been retired for at least three seasons, they played for the Steelers a minimum of three seasons and possess noteworthy career highlights, records and achievements. Former coaches and contributors who made significant contributions to the team are also eligible.
The Hall of Fame Committee consists of: Rooney II, Joe Gordon, Bob Labriola, Stan Savran and Tony Quatrini.
Which players, coaches or contributors would make your inaugural class? Pick up to five below. One of your choices not listed? Let us know in the comments:
In my humble opinion, the inaugural class should be simple and represent all facets.
The owner : Art Rooney, The Chief - Representing the Rooney family, the original founder, and where this all started for the franchise
The coach : Chuck Noll, The Emperor Chaz - Representing the start of the turnaround for the franchise. The man behind setting the winning precedence that we still enjoy to this day.
The player : Charles Greene, Mean Joe - The first player drafted by Noll and the rock on which our 70s dynasty was built upon. All everything and on every greatest NFL lists. Four time lowB repuS champion and Hall of Famer.
That's it for the first class.
Not saying others don't deserve to be in eventually, but for the original class, to kick this all off, this should be the foundation, just as the above mentioned three were the respective foundations for the franchise.
What say yous?
