The announcers mentioned Philip Rivers tying Dan Marino for touchdown passes in NFL history. I wondered where Ben was as they were a part of the same draft class (#8 BTW) and as I scrolled down the list I started to see Hall of Famers Like Bob Waterfield and Arnie Herber who were ranked 147 and 162 for TD passes. Their Stats were awful! But then, I stumbled on our very own Jim Finks. Jim is ranked #205 in Passing Touchdowns. In his short 7 years in the NFL, he played in 79 games and finished with a 47.8% completion percentage, 8622 yards, 55 Touchdowns and 88 Interceptions. He was named to the Pro-Bowl just one time. He rushed for 294 yards in 7 seasons and had one catch for 17 yards.

How the **** is Jim in the HoF? How many other Busts sitting in Canton are like Mr. Finks? I understand it was a different era in the 50's...But he threw for 88 interceptions in 79 games. He didn't start his rookie year. Second year he was a half back and rushed for 2 yards on 1 carry. They moved him to long snapper his third year and must have had to come in as a QB due to injury. He started at QB his final 4 years and was an interception machine. His final year with the Steelers he threw for 26 interceptions and just 10 TDs.

Unreal!

All I know is they should create a hof wing for fantasy football. Phoebe Rivers should be the inaugural inductee. Matthew Stafford will be a lock.

Good ole boys club....

Can't stand that dude...never stops chittering and chirping like a little *****.

He’s currently 7th All Time in Passing yards and 6th All Time in TD passes. He’ll be first ballot easily.

Stats don't fascinate me when it comes to Hall of Fame players. The voters will probably put him in, but anyone that watched him play can say he's very good, just not an all-time great.

A lot of qbs like rivers put up great numbers after the Mel Blount rule was I enacted. Hard to compare them to the guys that came before them. I really think the HOF should Asterisk those players that came after the rule change. It changed the game radically. big slow qb’s like rivers and Brady would have been physically hurt playing against the steel curtain and defenses like those. No way Brady Manning rivers put up the kind numbers they did without MB rule change so kinda like comparing apples to oranges.

Not just the Mel Blount rule, but it's increasingly easy to pass in the NFL going back just to the early 2000's, hell Bens 2nd year there was 1 QB with a rating of 100+ and that was 100.7, now there's probably a dozen QB's at 100 or more.

Doesn’t work like that... do we have to go back and asterisk all the wrs and rbs tgat were too slow to play in today’s game too? Or all the indersized olinemen who couldn’t play vs the size and speed monstrosities we see today?

Big time stats do it all the time

Rivers is currently at:

63,276 yards passing
420 TD's
208 INT's
64.9 % passes complete
Durable as Mother F'er.

Didn't play on teams with a really good WR either, or many good teams for that matter. He'll eventually get in.

He did play with a HOF RB and TE.. two of the best to ever play those positions.

He played with plenty of good teams that choked away good starts only to miss the playoffs. Again, a good or even very good QB. Not a Hall of Fame QB. All leagues have to raise the bar for this honor.

yep, and maybe he didn't have any good WR's because he didn't have the arm strength or ability to make WR's better, you know like Ben. We always seem to find good WR's because we have a QB that can make throws that help elevate them.

Those great WRs usually become very average once they leave.. wonder why?

Relative to the weapons of the other QB's, those two aren't getting a big chunk of yardage in the passing game.

Besides Tomlinson was only there for 4 seasons when he started out of the 16 seasons he was active.. Gates was a nice player who only passes 1,000 yards twice in his career.

Are you sure this is how you really feel?

Gates is a top 3 TE of all time. He's better than nice. Let's not forget Vincent Jackson who was a very good WR and had 3 seasons over 1,000 yards with Rivers.
