Germaine Pratt - LB U. South Carolina

So I reached out to a guy who knows a lot of football regarding Germaine Pratt. Assuming we either don't pick up one of the two Devins,,, or we choose not to take either one.. Im thinking , well who is left. maybe in the 2nd etc..

This is what he said:

I like Pratt. I think Pratt should be considered a more athletic, better coverage version of Vince Williams. I could see him sneaking into the bottom of the 2nd, but probably in the 3rd. I could see him going ahead of Mack Wilson, pretty similar players but, to me, Pratt is better in coverage. Wilson just doesn't make many mistakes. But, this is a pretty good group of off-the-ball linebackers, in my opinion. A good group of coverage linebackers can be found in the middle rounds. I'm not on board with the hype Devin White and Devin Bush are getting. I think both are first rounders, but neither are worthy of trading up to get. If you put them both in last year's draft, they would fall behind Smith, Edmunds, and LVE and be LBs #4 and #5. Both would have went around 20 or so. That is how I value them this year. This year isn't as good as last year as far as depth.[/SIZE]

I agree that we shouldn't trade up for either of them, Wilson, Pratt, Long, Burr kiven, grant are options , though they would be stop gaps and not much more

As for sparq scores, Durpee had a higher score than all but 3 or 4 edge peeps since the 2015 draft.

agree with this 100%. I remember watching multiple cut-ups of Pratt's highlights (granted, they're highlights and not actual tape), and I was pretty impressed. I'd be more than happy with him in the 2nd if we can manage it.

Ben Bur-Kriven (or whatever) check his production and measurables, compare them to the two Devin’s, and then tell me why he shouldn’t be considered a late first or early second rounder.

Yes, he skipped the bowl game which really pissed off a lot of fans. Seems to be a trend in college football.

I have been high on him. Though small he sheds block very well. Top hand use. A high motor all over the field type, I love him in round three.

If we miss out on the top-tier ILB's, here's a lesser name they've been pimping a bit over at SteelDepot. Haven't heard much of him, but seems to have the right skillset and physical attributes.

Which is welcome news, cause there seems to be a drop-off after the top-three, at least as far as athleticism. Watching Dirty Red flounder around chasing after players well past the LOS was painful enough for me. Would rather we draft speed-agility LB's from hereon, to pair with VWill.

Round Five (141st Overall): Emeke Egbule, ILB, Houston – 6’2”, 245 lbs
You guys are sleeping on this one! I rarely see the Egbule to Pittsburgh connection talked about at all, but he fits just about everything the Steelers are looking for in their ILB this year, and at fantastic value. With Colbert at his Pro Day and him running a solid 4.62, Egbule put himself right onto the Steelers’ radar, no doubt.

Egbule’s role in this defense would be an interesting. He is really a 4-3 SAM that would be stuck in a 3-4, but don’t think he can’t play that hybrid role here. Egbule can still take blitzing snaps while being in the middle, and where he really excels, in coverage.

The coverage part is going to absolutely draw the Steelers in big time. They need to replace the L.J. Fort role, which Mark Barron did not fill. Egbule comes in and fixes that hole and can play in sub-package snaps while also coming in every now and then as an OLB as well.

The biggest thing that caught my eye was that Egbule could be flexed out into the slot and still run with guys because of his lateral quickness. It all seems like a match made in heaven to me.

Okay, that scares me. I am worried that Butler tells himself, "Yeeees ... It did not work in having Williams or Fort cover the opponent's X, but damn, Egbule is the man!"
