Game Notes

THIS!

Long drives that end with TDs. I'd rather score 20 points while possessing the ball 40:00 than score 40 points while possessing the ball 20:00. Get into a shootout and you leave the outcome of the game up to the chance of being the last team to have the ball. **** that!

I'd take 40 points, I don't know how we'd score 40 points with only 20 mins of possession, but I'll take 40 points right now.

You did see the Chiefs switch out Kelce for Tyreek Hill anticipating a short kick right? Not worth the risk AT ALL in that part of the game.

Good catch. That's smart. No point giving Hill a chance on a really low percentage play.

The last play was dumb, why not call a hail mary? Brown had no shot at scoring, just got his face smashed in there.

1) Thought the O-line was strong all the way through, with no penalties. Not even a false start in a tough road stadium.
2) Pouncey is playing the best I've ever seen. His mobility is a big asset.
3) Bell was great again, but he did seem to tire a bit in the second half. Don't see why they can't give DWill a series at some point in each half.
4) Ben seemed just a hair off most of the night, but I was so happy for him when he clinched it. KC wins the game if that pass doesn't net a first down.
5) Huge game from Jesse James, although the Chiefs seemed to leave him wide open an awful lot.
6) Was worried after the first Chiefs drive, but the D played well again, aided by a few key KC drops.
7) Harrison continues to amaze me, and Travis Kelce can kiss my ***...a textbook hold took those 2 points off the board, not a "Foot Locker" ref.
8) Was worried after the first Steelers kickoff, but the ST was incredible after that. Congrats to the Boz on a new playoff record.
9) Other than some questionable red-zone play calls, I thought the coaching was excellent, except...
10) I would have given Boswell a shot from 58 instead of having Ben and Brown pad their stats at the end of the half. If you're not going to kick it, just throw the Hail Mary.

All in all, a solid road win, but they must play better next week to beat New England.

Agree about giving D-will some carries. They have totally different running styles that could complement each other.

Why, yes, I watched the game, so I did see the swap. I also saw Boswell booming kicks straight down the middle all night, including passing through the uprights 3/4 of the way up on a 45-yarder. So I wasn't too worried about a short kick. Having 3 more potential points was very important in this game...you did see the final score, right?

How about a Hail Mary play from the 40, instead of a stat-padding throw to AB with no chance...would that have been worth the risk AT ALL in that part of the game?

Hill wasn't really all that effective, except when they were scared of the guy, squib-kicked it away from him, and gave KC the ball on the 45.

While I mildly disagreed with the decision, I can understand why Tomlin eschewed the field goal. But I don't get the last play call. Ben can heave it up there just as well as Rodgers.

They did a great job on Hill in the kicking game, but the defense didn't even bother to cover him down field on two occasions. Fortunately, Smith didn't see him either time.
He was running from pressure to his right both times, he couldn't make that throw that far across his body

The squib kick to start the game was a better strategy than i first thought... while they got it in great fofield position for that drive, it totally pulled the blocking scheme out of position for the second one and allowed that explosive hit... whoever came up with that gets a gold star

Well, I wasn't being literal, but...

Score a TD every 3:30 of possession, no huddle, up tempo air it out offense. 40 points in 20:00. That's great, but the flip side that leaves Brady needing to score a TD every 5:45. I'm not sure that's too far off their norm especially against a defense that's been on the field a lot.

It leaves a lot up to chance.

I agree Topseed, except for one point. There is no way Boz hits a 58 yarder. He's barely clearing the bar at 51. I know he was hurt, and he's getting stronger now, but I believe his absolute max in a game is 54 yards. And that's if he's healthy in perfect kicking conditions.

I think there was a way, considering that Boswell hit the netting halfway up the goalposts from 45 yards out, just 7 real-time minutes earlier, going in the same direction. A similar kick would have cleared another 13 yards.

Tomlin trotted him out there from 54 earlier in the year when the kicker was clearly struggling, correct? I just would have liked to have seen Boz get a chance from 58 on a day when he was dead on.

They only downside is hill gets a free return against offensive guys if he is short
