Well let me first say.....****! We let that one slip away in the final minutes of the game. How the **** do you have 5 turnovers and you loose the game? I know it's Mason's first NFL start and he was obviously over-anxious early on in the game. Defensively I thought they played ok but they are giving up alot of big plays right through the middle in the running and passing game where Devin Bush & Mark Barron seem to be hanging out. I also don't understand the lack of using Javon Hargrave in the middle of the D-line. When he wasn't in there the 49'ers blew our guys off the line of scrimmage....where was the adjustment Tomlin?.....heck stick McCullers in there....he'll take up space! I'll say this right now....the Mark Barron signing might be even worse than the Moncrief signing. What has happened to our running game? Is it the run blocking? The lack of a TE who can block in the running game? I'll give Devin Bush a pass but Mark Barron.....I expect more effort and better play from a 8 year veteran LB'er. Pass protection seemed pretty good. With the loss of the 3 B's we have become a team without an identity.....in the past we use to use the pass to setup the running game. Now we have a 2nd year QB and we can't help him out by running the football effectively behind this O-line......I just don't get it. The one thing I do know is that our offense's lack of ability to move the football has our Defense out there for long times....and you can see our Front 7 wearing down as the game goes on.

Injuries:
Vance McDonald - Shoulder being evaluated

Game Balls:
Minkah Fitzpatrick - If anyone thought this was a bad signing....after today you should feel better. 1 INT, 1 Forced Fumble & 6 tackles. He's a good open field tackler....well worth our #1 pick next season. He's the best DB we've had since Troy
Terrell Edmunds - I thought this was his best game of his short NFL career. Maybe having Fitzpatrick on the roster lit a fire under his *** today. His best game as a pro!
Stephon Tuitt - He played like a man possessed today.....constant pressure.
TJ Watt - BIG INT early in the game today.....a fumble recovery and 2 pass breakups.....he was constantly in Garapallo's face today
Joe Haden - He had a good game today pretty much kept the guys he was covering shut down
Devin Bush - 2 Fumble Recoveries today......9 tackles. He had a few plays where he got run over but I don't think that's his lack of ability....it was the SF run game being able to get to the 2nd level...right up the middle....without Hargrave in the middle of the D-line.

Game Goats:
Mark Barron - This guy might be worst than Moncrief! He was out-hustled and over-matched today....he just looks like he's not putting forth the effort out there on the football field. Was lazy in coverage....got beat by the 49'ers Fullback....not one but twice for Big Pass plays on 3rd down for first down conversions. The costly holding penalty on 3rd & 16 from the Steelers 17 yd line when the QB was running for his life and looking to throw it away....Barron holds....Automatic First Down! COST US THE GAME! Time for Ulysses Gilbert or Dirty Red!
James Conner - This kid is taking the handoff and dancing around behind the line of scrimmage with the football.....this is not his running style......costly fumble today that was the turning point in the game. He doesn't fumble alot but he fumbles at critical times in game.
Xavier Grimble - This guy just can't block anyone and I mean anyone. He was a liability on the field today......I hope Zach Gentry can run block better. I can't imagine he's any worse than Grimble looked today.
Ryan Switzer - WTF is this guy on the roster? His punt return and kickoff return ability is just horrible! There's gotta be some free agent kid out there who can play special teams. BTW Dionte Spencer took one to the house today for Denver! SMH
Johnny Holton - Here's another ******* guy who is a waste of a roster spot. Please bring up Tevin Jones! He is better than both Switzer and Holton.
Steven Nelson - Did this guy get exposed today or just a bad game? Whenever the 49'ers converted a pass it seemed Nelson was the guy they kept throwing at.
Allejando Villaneuva - He looks worn down, tired and slow. No longer appears to be a rock at LT.
Matt Feiler - His worst game as a pro by a long shot. He really struggled all day but the 49'ers do have an amazing D-line.

FU's:
**** YOU MARK BARRON YOU PIECE OF ****! YOUR THE DONTE MONCRIEF OF DEFENSE! YOU COST US THIS GAME! I CAN'T STAND HIS LACK OF EFFORT OUT THERE ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD. I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE SEEING THIS! C'MON COACHING STAFF.....HE SHOULD BE BENCHED! THE HOLDING CALL TONIGHT ON 3rd & 16...WAS THE ICING ON THE CAKE! BENCH THIS BUM! HE MONCRIEF'ED THIS GAME AWAY TONIGHT!

I disagree on Connor He is not being used right for his skill set at least with the lack of passing as a major threat. He should be getting the ball with a head of steam and a lead blocker , not getting that sidecar handoff.

I would say Ju-Ju gets a game ball. Maybe Berry, who had his best day as a pro.

Add Tomlin to the goats as his lack of clock management skills were on display in both half.

Too many game balls.
Watt, Tuitt, and Fitzpatrick were the best player on the field for the Steelers. I agree with Coach that Berry had one of his best games in his career.

Edmunds and Haden had their moments, but they had some bad ones as well. Edmunds was in on what looked like two big passing plays with miscommunication or something with Mark Barron.

Agree, I thought Berry was kicking *** today. The wife and I were like, "Where the hell did that come from?"

Goats:
1. Barron, everytime i see him it looks like he is just jogging or missing a tackle.
2. Villanueva,, i never thought that he was a pro bowler, His man may not get the sack, but he is bull rushed back every play.
3. Conner, he is Abercrombie reborn, you can be guaranteed that he will fumble in a close game.
4. No need to comment on Switzer, Holton and Grimble, they don't belong in the NFL.

0-3 no game balls for anyone. Shake up is really needed on this team. Under these coaches they have played and looked the same.

I also want to add, on play action plays, both Baron and Bush get sucked in everytime, Jesus you would think they would tell just one of them to rush hard and the other to cover the middle for the pass.

No way Bush gets a game ball. The reason why he is recovering fumbles is because he is nowhere near the play. Go watch. On the last play he was ridden off the ball and was just standing there when the ball came out. He's fast enough to jump on them but it isn't because he his making a play. His tackles are way down the field as well. He isn't ready yet.

Barron-useless. Not just the penalty that killed them, but he is invisible.
Edmonds-weak player. Below the line.
Conner-great story, but overrated.
Tomlin & Colbert-Did you just trade your top ten 1st round pick next year????

Rudolph will get better IMHO. That pick today-textbook rookie pick.

How do you criticize Tomlin/Colbert for trading away the #1 pick and give Rudolph a vote of confidence at the same time. If he’s our future, then we just watched out #1 pick dominate today (Fitzpatrick).

You do realize that only about half of #1 picks actually make it big in the NFL. There was no guarantee that who ever they picked up (QB or not) was going to be a star. Fitzpatrick is the real deal.

Our defense was great.

Our offense has mostly second rate talent and terrible coaching.

The only time we did anything on offense was when we aired it out. So why did we only do that like 3 times? Just pathetic playcalling. We could have done more even with our limited resources.

Safeties no matter how good they are in todays NFL are not difference makers over a season Hell today Fitzpatrick played great and the entire defense still played like ****.

I wouldn't call the defense great, great defenses don't give up 10 3rd and long plays. Great defenses are great for 4 quarters.

Game Goats:

- Fichtner. Looks to me Ben called even more of his own plays than what we already thought. Not having Ben is exposing Fichtner as a mediocre OC. Rudolph is on record saying he's just gonna do what the OC calls and try to execute. So the game planning and play-calling here is all on Fichtner.
- The entire O-line played like ****. This was supposedly the one strength, the one constant, that was gonna help our young QB find his way. The vets along this line have been annointed untouchable over the past few years. So far, they've been a real liability. How much Fichtner's playcalling has to do with this remains a question.
- Mark Barron - agree with Chicoman 100%. Barron shouldn't play another down for us.
- James Conner - looks like a shadow of himself, maybe he's still nursing injuries. Looks tentative, cost us the game coughing up the ball. Bad vibes w him right now, he doesn't seem right.

Fichtner isn't showing us much as an OC.
Conner is a #2 RB, not a #1. The WR's have a lot to prove.
The middle of our defense still gets gashed. We should rename our middle linebackers middle catch chasers.

Play calling in first half was the leading goat. That's what left the defense on the field too long, which wore them out in second half.

I'd start giving Gilbert some snaps on defense, he seemed good in coverage during preseason. I'd also have Rogers back on the team by Tuesday.
He is an improvement on Holton, Switzer and Moncreif. I don't care which of the 3 are cut. Rudolph had some success with Rogers in preseason.

Ran into 8 and 9 man fronts all game long. Instead of working in some play action, crossing routes and deep balls early we were determined to run, run, pass, punt today. Piss poor game plan and again lack of in game adjustments. The 49ers actually ran out of an I formation and gashed us with it. I know Nix is out, but this is something we need to do with our offense when Nix is back.

I agree Minkeh Fitzpatrick played well today though they did most of their damage in the 15 yard middle zone. However, based upon the teams play it did nothing to make me believe that was a good trade. To me a qb draft pick, or even a premium cant miss pass rusher to take over Dupree has far more value.
