I know, I know, this team doesn't "build" through FA, and I get it. But sometimes their low-level signings are so bargain bin related, it makes you wonder if they should even bother trying FA moves at all.

Last year's FA were nearly worthless.

Morgan Burnett, S. He was a decent S in his prime, but Pitt wanted him to play that "hybrid" S/ILB. He was basically a waste of time and $, so much so, he prefered to leave Pitt than come back to play that position. Grade: D.

Jon Bostic, ILB. Team was desperate for an ILB but Bostic was fairly bad, especially in coverage. Too slow. 73 combined tackles, 2.5 sacks. If he's your starting ILB you might not be very good. C.

Nat Berhe, S. Barely played. D

Justin Hunter, WR. Just never has produced. C-

Steve Ridley, RB. They were not confident he wouldn't fumble more, hence a rookie late pick got more touches. D.

2019 FA additions.

Mark Barron, S/ILB. Is this Burnett all over again? Are they sure this hybrid S/LB is even a good plan to begin with? They aren't backing away from it. Went from 86 to 60 total tackles, '17 to '18. Looks like on downside of career (age 29). Gained some bulk, but can he cover anyone now? I'm not in love with this signing at all. It really feels like they don't know what the are doing with the S/LB hybrid. C-.

Donte Moncrief, WR. Underachiever. Always hear about his speed, but what has he done with it? He's mostly had crap QBs (Bortles last year) so, he is probably a solid #4. We are all hoping Washington makes a big leap from his rookie season, so our 1-2 is JuJu and him. Let a rookie, Moncrief and Rogers battle out for 3-4. And he does bring experience. B.

Steve Nelson, CB. The one move that should be a fairly significant upgrade. Pitt was hurting badly at #2 CB. I mean, badly. Nelson is no probowler, but much more solid than Burned or Nonsensical. He did have four ints last season and he is young. B+.

Re-signing FA players

Chick, OLB. May have overpaid. He's not the worst. Back up material but knows the ropes. I'm not mad at the signing.

Rogers, WR. Adds depth, Ben likes him. Coming off ACL in 2017. Need WRs with AB's ***-tronics.

McCullers, DT. Yea, we all know, he's giant. Kind of end of discussion as he just doesn't produce. May still be cut if they sign a tree stump from a local landscaper. No, probably won't.
