Realistically, would Le’Veon Bell be traded? Probably not. He can’t discuss a contract extension this year, thus gathering little interest from other teams. Is this Madden football? You probably could squeeze a few more late round picks from each team if you wanted to.
 
I would take that Jets offer so fast heads would spin.
 
I'm sure you put a lot of thought into those scenarios but c'mon. You might has well have said KC. Bell for Mahomes. If they can trade Bell they are going to get a third or a fourth.
 
I'll take the compensatory pick in 2020. I'd not pay him the first two weeks after he signs his tender either. If he wants to **** over the team then **** him over too.

That might only be a 3rd, 4th, or 5th round pick, depending on what we spend in free agency.

Any trade that offers the Steelers a 3rd round pick will be better than compensatory pick. If its an early 3rd, the difference could be as much as 32 slots in the round.

if they take less than a 3rd they're complete morons and should be fired.
 
At this point, we're getting a 3rd from him IF we let him walk in FA after the season.
So that is the minimum starting point.
That said, some serious defensive help and/or a combination of D players and picks is perfectly acceptable.
We're NOT going to get a Khalil Mack type deal because he wasn't playing on the tag and still had a year left.
He was able to get a new deal.
New team assumes some risk of losing Bell after the season.
We can't outright fleece a team, but we should be able to get more than a 3rd......which is a win at this point.
 
As long as that ****** doesn’t end up in New England, Dallas, or Baltimore I’m good. He’s just bait at this point anyway. Might as well use him if the fish are biting. He can go to Miami if they have anything good to offer. He seems to like it there.

With the extra money the Steelers would have wouldn't formula be impacted if they used the money to bring in a few quality free agents ?


So that 3rd in theory could lower or not ?

Pretty sure you are right and it also is dependent on how much Bell plays and the FAs we bring in. Combine that and you have why the compensatory pick wouldn't be available until the 2020 draft. So a lot of factors go into the actual round of compensation. Now id we could trade him outright I would believe our picks would be for next available draft pending on said team & how the cointract is written. example 3rn pick but if he signs on long term then another 3rd rnd pick 2020 or a conditional pick.

Like selling a house the market is the market. And everyone thinks their fixer upper is a mansion. If they are trading him it's more than the week 9 return. It's that they are a house divided over this. Plus you are getting a 8 week rental. No one is giving more than a third. Sorry to hit you with reality.
 
Here's the contrast: The Steelers don't have to trade him if they are not happy with the compensation. This is why Colbert has the leverage here.

The announcement of the trade wasn't for the league's benefit. GMs call all the time to inquire about players. This announcement was for Bell's agent. Hey, you want to get paid this year? Find a partner and play ball. Hell the agent can even save some face by finding a trade partner willing to pay Bell his entire full season tag value, and that is a ******* win at this point. Steelers aren't dropping him for nothing, Bell isn't getting a NEW contract this year, so the agent's only recourse is to get more money at this point in the season, than would currently be guaranteed on his tag.
