Forget London, Mexico City is a better bet for the first NON-USA based NFL team

Mexicans love American football. With a city / urban population of 20 million, drawing fans, merchandising, and such would not be a problem here, and neither would travel.

Not so sure about that. Terrible air quality, traffic and at 7200 ft. I don't think many teams want to play at that elevation every home game. What about the exchange rate and do they get paid in Pesos?

I'm pretty sure it can be a USA based corporation that pays the players in dollars, but the merchandise, local advertisement, parking, ticket sales and such might be paid in Pesos in Mexico.

But the Travel would be all right. That is not the case in London.

Now for once a good thread to start Coach!

The logistics are much easier to accommodate for sure. Time zone difference isn't an issue nor would tix sales and merchandise. The only problem would be height above SL. Almost 2000 ft higher than Denver. That would be a huge disadvantage for traveling opponents.

It makes more sense than London, but the NFL has zero need for expansion. A team would have to move there.

Exactly, and we have enough teams moving around after the Rams bailed on St. Louis and went to LA, and there is talk of the Raiders moving to Las Vegas. Give the dust time to settle and evaluate the effectiveness of those moves before you promote any other major changes.

London makes no sense at all....not sure what players are going to want to live in Mexico half the year to play for the Mexico City Raiders.

London makes no sense from a travel perspective, that team will always be at a disadvantage with jet lag. The only option would be that they play all 8 of their away games in a row here in the states, but even then it would be outrageously expensive for a team to have to move all operation to the states for 8 weeks.

As far as fans go, I had a consultant that I work with went to the Bengals/Redskins game over there while he was on a project in London. He said 2/3 of the fans in attendance had NO clue what the rules of the game even were. I doubt they have a fan base that could support an NFL team once the novelty wore off. Look at the NFL Europe or World League as an example. Nobody plays American Football over there.

As long as all the players and staff were cool with inhaling feces particles it would be all good.

Yes, and it could be Jacksonville. It could be karma as Jaguars are popular in Mexican culture. If the NFL wants money Mexico City >>>> than Jacksonville.

Population wise it makes sense but that altitude would be a huge home field advantage and who is going to want to live 6 months a year in Mexico where the teams this last game were warned not to leave the hotel or even leave the room by themselves. The NFL or the team would have to put up private living accommodations with armed guards... Maybe Cancun would be the better option. :)

if they do this **** and goodell still laments why viewers are down, it'll be hysterical.

Did this really occur Ford? Seriously? But what about Player Safety? I thought that's the mantra nowadays.

It's the national football league, not the international football league!

While Mexico a better option than London there are several other cities within the good ole USA that are better options than Mexico. NO TEAMS OUTSIDE THE BORDERS!!!

**** Goodell for even making this a discussion, **** those who support the idea of exporting this product and **** THE PATRIOTS!

The Raiders are looking for a new home. Good fit.

Normally I'd be a guy who's all for being inclusive but this is a horrible idea. Horrible. The NFL is so ****** greedy tha tthey are going to wind up overextending and really messing the product up on the field even more. Keep the teams in the US. What a **** show Goodell is running at the NFL office. Don't they have more things to worry about than trying to shoehorn a team outside the country.

Bring on the Omaha Beef, I'd put a team in Nebraska before anywhere outside the US. They sure do seem to love their football and why I realize that it is not a major market I believe people from many surrounding areas would travel to support a "local" team...give them a crack at it before exporting the product.

Alabama could probably support an NFL team too, talk about football country.
